The rockfish was a late bite for us today but we caught our limits of those too in all we got 300 crabs, 300 rockfish and a pair of lingcod,” reported Captain Jonathan Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing on November 3. Captain Chris Smith of Pacific Dream Sportfishing has been putting up some impressive crab and rockfish scores. “The slaughter continues aboard the Pacific Dream! Full limits of Jumbos! Probably the best quality rockfish I’ve seen all season and some of the biggest crabs I’ve seen in a long time,” exclaimed Captain Chris. The Pacific Dream is running both crab combo trips and half day crab trips. “We had a great crab combo opener today,” reported Captain James Smith New Easy Rider Sportfishing Departures from Berkeley Marina 3712 N ow B ookiNg SALMoN, HALiBUT, BASS LiVE BAiT TRiPS Rock & Ling Cod and Sturgeon Reservations & Information (707)422-2050 [email protected] www.neweasyrider.com aboard the California Dawn on November 2. “Weather was absolutely beautiful! It was a “pick” bite on the rockfish at the Farallon Islands, but we managed to work out some fantastic quality for full limits of rockfish. We also got a handful of lingcod, before switching over to Dungeness crab. Pots were fishing well. We finished off with full limits of crab to make it another memorable opener,” BODEGA BAY Spectacular Opener to the Recreational Dungeness Crab Season BODEGA BAY - The weather couldn’t be any better since the recreational Dungeness crab season opened on November 2nd, and with the launch ramp closed at Doran Park, boaters are lining up from the Westside Launch Ramp all the way to Highway One in order to put their boats in the water to get out to the crab. Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing said, “The Veteran’s Day Weekend has brought thousands to Bodega Bay, and all of the restaurants and business are busy, and it is all about the Dungeness crab. It hasn’t been like this since the old days of salmon season. The breakwater is loaded with fishermen, and there are kayaks all over the Inner Bay dropping pots.” Powers is loading up on his combination trips, and he was tied up at the docks by 2:00 p.m. by Saturday, November 9th with 24 limits of lingcod, 24 limits of huge dinosaur rockfish, and limits of jumbo crab. Trips like this have been the norm as he was tied up by 1:00 p.m. on Thursday with 48 limits of rockfish, 48 limits of Dungeness crab, and 22 ling cod to 18 pounds. He said, “This is the best crab opener in 10 years, and we have been finding some great lingcod action as the both the lings and the rockfish are chewing. Normally on the combination trips, it is difficult to target both rockfish and lings along with pulling the pots, but the fishing has been so good that we have been able to spend some time on the lings. On Sunday and Monday of this week, we took 110 lings with 66 on Sunday and another 47 on Monday.” On the kayak scene, Annie Nagel of Ocean Kayaks was out on the Dungeness crab opener on her kayak out of Bodega Bay, and they found great Huge rockfish like this amazing vermilion have been on tap for anglers departing from the Pillar Point Marina aboard the Huli Cat. success for crab.
