28 SALTWATER Oct 25 - Nov 8, 2019 VOL.38 • ISS. 23 SALTWATER REPORTS BERKELEY Fishing Great, Crowds Light… BERKELEY - Fishing both inside and outside San Francisco Bay is outstanding, but angler interest is very low. So low in fact that trips have been infrequent for some charter boats. Halibut and striper fishing inside S.F. Bay is very productive. On smaller tide days the halibut bite excels, when the tides ramp up so does the striper action. The north and central bay has been the best area of late. Outside the Golden Gate, rockfish and lingcod action has been very good, along the coast, at Point Reyes and the Farallon Islands. The big challenge has been the weather. There has been a lot of wind and rough conditions recently and that has made fishing beyond the Golden Gate difficult over the past two weeks. Salmon scores have been up and down for Golden Gate trollers, ranging anywhere from a half fish per rod to one fish per rod. The good news is that the kings being caught are big beautiful fish that range up to 32 pounds. Rigged bait and patience is what it takes to get a fall king. The New Easy Rider rounded up 8 kings to 22 pounds for their 7 anglers on their most recent October outing. BODEGA BAY Albacore, Lingcod and Rockfish Dominate Sonoma Coast Action This angler headed out of Half Moon Bay looking for quality rockfish on October 5 and was rewarded with several fish including this impressive vermilion. BODEGA BAY - Salmon scarce, but multiple species keep Bodega Bay private and party boats busy prior to the Dungeness crab opener (Bodega Bay) The salmon have been scarce, but there is plenty of other species in the ocean off of Bodega Bay to keep local party and private boats happy as the albacore have shown far offshore 2019 Model CLEARANCE!!
