Kokanee Bite Red Hot!

For sturgeon roe and eel are the baits.
Target deep water areas, rely on your sonar
and you should be able to hooks some dandy
diamond backs if you can beat the westerly
winds.
Salmon trollers pulling spinners
have been hooking the occasional
12 to 20-pound fish, but few
anglers are trying. The best
part of the salmon trolling
season is right around the
corner for Delta sticks.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - The Lake Tahoe
kokanee bite is peaking right now and
anglers are boating easy limits of fish in
the 12 to 14-inch class. The mackinaw
bite is also very good for fish that run in
the 2 to 5-pound range, but right now
most anglers are focused on kokanee
fishing.
“I just returned from an amazing trip
to Lake Tahoe. My brother, his son and
I boated full limits of kokanee in about
2 hours once we found the fish at the

That’s what we used and it
worked great. The kokanee
aren’t huge, but they sure
are great for the barbeque.”
If you don’t want to take
you own boat up to Lake
Tahoe, the folks at Tahoe
Sportfishing are putting
their clients on full limits of
kokanee during half day
adventures. They’ve also
mixed in some mackinaw
fishing over the past week
with a high level of success,
but the focus has definitely
been on rounding up limits of
sockeye salmon.
With the largest fishing
fleet on Lake Tahoe, the
Tahoe Sportfishing Team can
accommodate single anglers
or large groups, offering full
day, morning and afternoon
trips.

WEST DELTA
Striper Trolling
Takes Spotlight Out
West
PITTSBURG - A few
salmon are starting to trickle
through the Delta and the
sturgeon bite in the upper
end of Suisun Bay is really
good, but the fish creating
the most excitement are
stripers.
The trolling bite is
underway big time. While
most of the bass are 4 to 7
pound schoolies, there are
some much bigger fish on
the prowl too.
“I took out the Fish Sniffer
Duckworth with my buddy
Matt and we nailed about a
dozen stripers while pulling
P-Line Predators and Yo-Zuri
Crystal Minnows tipped with
white plastic worms,” said
the Fish Sniffer’s own Wes
Ward. “The bass were all
in the 18 to 22-inch range.
Nothing huge, but a lot of fun
to catch.”
Other trollers, including
Captain David Hammond of
Delta Pro Fishing have been
enjoying limit style fishing on
both keeper and jumbo size
stripers.
“We are keeping a lot of
20 to 24 inch males for fillets
and releasing the larger
fish,” says Hammond. “When
and where you catch the
bigger fish is totally random.
One day, it’s all schoolies
and the next day you’ll pick
up some double-digit fish.
It’s like those bigger fish are
moving in pods. Sometimes
you cross paths with them,
sometimes you don’t.”
