“Fishing was tough on my latest trip
on the lake,” said Jerry Lampkin of TNG
Motor Sports Guide Service. “We caught
only one fish, a 12 inch rainbow, while
trolling Speedy Shiners.”
Craig Newton of of Willfish Bait and
Tackle made a trip to Folsom to break in
his new jet boat. While fishing in the North
Fork, he did pick up a couple of spotted
bass in the 12 inch range while casting

rigs at 5 to 20 feet deep.
The arrival of cooler fall weather should
improve the trolling for rainbow and king
salmon, as well as bass fishing.
This is a good time of year to target
channel catfish at Folsom. Throw out
mackerel, chicken liver, nightcrawlers and
other baits in the coves at Five Percent,
Granite Bay, Browns Ravine, Folsom
Point and elsewhere on the lake.
Folsom Lake is holding 773,407 acre
feet of water, 79 percent of capacity and
123 percent of average. The water level is
454.31 feet in elevation.

Fall Chinooks Surge Into
Lower River
REQUA – The fall Chinook
fishery opened Aug. 15 in the
Klamath River and Sept. 1 in the
Trinity River. After a slow start
to the season, a big number of
salmon entered the Klamath
estuary on August 28 and the
fishing turned on.
“The five anglers in my boat
caught five salmon ranging
from 24 to 30 inches long in the
estuary,” said Jerry Lampkin of
TNG Motor Sports Guide Service.
“Everybody that went back out in
the evening after they arrived in
camp caught fish in the estuary.”
“We trolled Kastmasters and
anchovies for the kings in the
estuary,” stated Lampkin. “We
also hooked a jack salmon
and couple of steelhead in the
Klamath Glen area upriver, but the
