Creek Reopens for Adult
Chinook Salmon Harvest on
Monday, Nov. 19
WEAVERVILLE - The California
Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (CDFW)
Trinity River Hatchery has determined
the hatchery will have taken in more than
4,800 fall Chinook Salmon by the end of
this week. According to California 2018-19
supplemental sport fishing regulations,
the take of 4,800 fall Chinook Salmon at
the hatchery triggers the reopening of
the recreational Chinook Salmon fishery
on the Upper Trinity River between the
mouth of Indian Creek, near Weaverville,
and Old Lewiston Bridge, at 12 a.m. on
Monday, Nov. 19.
Recreational anglers will be able
to harvest two Chinook Salmon, with
no more than one adult greater than
22 inches, per day in this reach. The
possession limit is six Chinook Salmon,
and no more than three adults. Reopening
this stretch of the Trinity River is designed
to allow anglers to catch surplus hatchery
Chinook Salmon now that the number
of adults needed for spawning has been
achieved at the hatchery.
The lower Trinity River, downstream
of Hawkins Bar, and the upper Klamath
River, upstream of I-5 near Hornbrook, are
the other sections of the river that remain
open to the take of adult Chinook Salmon.
All other quota areas are closed to the
take of adult Chinook Salmon. The take of
jack salmon, those equal to or less than
22 inches, may be taken in all areas of
the Klamath basin, with the exception of

the mouth of the Klamath River, which is
closed for the remainder of the year. The
daily bag limit for jack salmon in these
areas is two fish per day and no more
than six in possession.

Rancho Seco
Rancho Seco Recreational Area is a 400-acre
park overflowing with recreational opportunities
including camping, boating, fishing, swimming
and wildlife viewing. The 160-acre lake is fed by
the Folsom South Canal and is a great year-round
day or overnight getaway located in Cali-
fornia’s Central Valley, just 25 miles from
downtown Sacramento.
You may launch an electric motor boat,
rowboat or sailboat from the two ramps
located at each end of the dam. Ramp hours
coincide with facility hours. Kayaks,
Row Boats, Stand Up Paddle-
boards, Electric powered fishing
boats are available on a seasonal
basis. Windsurfers are also
welcome on the lake.
This fresh water lake is a
habitat for bass, bluegill, red
ear sunfish, crappie and catfish.
Rainbow trout are stocked in the
lake January through March.
Fishing licenses are required
and can be purchased at the lake
office. Fishing piers allow access
for those with disabilities. The

annual trout derby is held in the spring and is
always a popular event.
Shadow Cliffs
Shadow Cliffs is situated only a mile
from downtown Pleasanton on Stanley
Boulevard. Swimming, fishing and
non-motorized boats are allowed
at the park.
The park was formerly
a gravel quarry and was
donated to the Park District;
266-acres have been
developed with an 80-acre
lake, parking and picnic grounds. An
arroyo with a chain of smaller lakes
and ponds provide retreats beyond the
main lake.
Trout fishing is outstanding in
the main lake during the cool water
months.

Lake Del Valle
Del Valle Lake is located 10 miles south of
Livermore off Interstate 580 in the San Francisco
East Bay area. The lake is surrounded by over
5,000 acres of beautiful oak-covered hills at an
altitude of 745 feet.
The lake stretches for 5 miles and has 16 miles
of shoreline.
Fishing is excellent at Del Valle Lake. Regular
trout plants take place from October through
May by the California Department of Fish and
Wildlife. In addition, East Bay Regional Park
District has a supplement fishing program, which
promotes the stocking of trout from the fall until
spring and catfish in the summer.
Other species of fish include Black Bass,
Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped
Bass, Sturgeon, Salmon, Crappie, Bluegill and
variety of pan fish, which bite throughout the
year.

“We’ve had a couple days when we
didn’t get a keeper sturgeon, but most
days we are scoring 2 to 4 slot fish and
there are some real monsters around too.
Just this week we’ve brought multiple 200
plus pound fish to the side of the boat.
Everybody wants a slot fish, but those big
oversize fish sure are fun to fight,” said
Mullins.
“We are fishing in the upper end of
Suisun Bay with standard baits. Lamprey
eel and salmon roe are getting it done.
When this great sturgeon action slows
down, we’ll get start fishing big live baits
for stripers. I’m really looking forward to
putting some folks on their big bass of a
lifetime,” Mullins concluded.
Anglers targeting stripers are having
exceptional luck while working both the
Sacramento and San Joaquin side. Some
pluggers are reporting catching as many
as 50 bass per day on swimbaits and
spoons.
Bait guys are scoring while still fishing
with cut shad and live mudsuckers
while drifters round up keepers with live
minnows, mudsuckers and bluegill.
Trollers are rounding up easy
limits while pulling Yo-Zuris and
vibrating crankbaits.
The average striper is
going 4 to 6 pounds, but fish
into the lower 20’s have
been common.
