James Netzel of Tight Lines Guide Service reported an average of 1 salmon per trip in the mornings on the latest trips. “After that, the fishing is slow,” he noted. “I’ve been experiencing better action lately while trolling with Brad’s Killer Fish in the Sacramento area. The salmon we’ve been getting are chrome fish in the 15 to 20 lb. range.” Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service reported three salmon for three anglers on his latest trip on the Sacramento. “We had limits again,” said Reimers. “They just can’t leave that Brad’s Cut Plug in the Jackpot pattern alone. We almost lost one to a seal. We had a double hook-up to start the day.” “The salmon are still biting,” said Alan Fong at the Fisherman’s Warehouse. “A friend using a Brad’s Cut Plug behind a dodger reported getting a chrome salmon over 20 pounds by 7:30 a.m. during his latest trip to the river in town.” - -Dan Bacher SANTA CLARA VALLEY/ SAN LUIS LAKES Target Calero Crappie with Small Jigs, Baits COYOTE – If you want to target crappie in the Santa Clara Valley, give Calero Lake a try. “Bank anglers are experiencing solid crappie fishing while using redworms, waxworms and small jigs,” said Jacob Cucrufelli at Coyote Bait and Tackle. “My buddy, Mark Adams, recently landed a 2 lb. crappie there while fishing a jig from shore. The far end of the lake opposite the boat ramp is producing the top fishing.” For largemouth bass, Jacob suggested fishing Chesbro and Uvas reservoirs. Anglers throwing out jigs, Senkos and crankaits on both reservoirs are hooking bass up to 8 pounds. Crappie and bass fishing at Coyote Lake is tough, although persistent bank anglers are catching a few of both species. Mark Adams reported catching several crappie, ranging from 3/4 to 2 pounds, on his latest shore fishing adventure at Coyote. “Anderson Reservoir is closed to boating at this time, but shore fishermen are picking up a few largemouths while using drop shot rigs, scatterbaits and jigs,” Jacob noted. San Luis Reservoir is producing some quality striped bass in the 25 to 35 inch range. “Boaters are doing best throwing top water poppers, jerkbaits and Zoom Flukes into the shad boils,” Jacob advised. “Trolling with Atlas Rigs and drifting minnows and shad are also productive.” - Dan Bacher CONTINUED ON PG 17 TAHOE SPORTFISHING est.1953 Lake Tahoe’s Largest Fishing Fleet year-round fishing Half & Full Day Charters single fisherman to large families & private parties We supply everything you need to fish!
