Crowds Are Light , Fishing Is Great !
EAST BAY- Fall charter boat action couldn ’ t be much better for East Bay saltwater enthusiasts . Lingcod and rockfish are providing limit style action . Salmon trips are producing a fish per rod and there are still halibut available inside the bay .
On the salmon fishing front , the New Easy Rider has been averaging about a fish per rod . Some days re a little better , some are a little slower . The fish are averaging 8 to 12 pounds , but fish to 38 have been landed .
The Happy Hooker , skippered by Captain Jonathan Smith has been scoring limits of lingcod and rockfish . Big lingcod in the 12 to 25 pound range have been plentiful .
The story is much the same on the California Dawn with full limits of rockfish and lingcod hitting the deck during bottom fishing trips to the Farallon Islands . When Captain James Smith keeps the boat inside the bay his anglers have been averaging a solid halibut per rod .
Captain Quang Vo of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing has also been rounding up full limits of lingcod to 25 pounds and limits of rockfish .
Crab season is slated to kick off for Bay Area anglers on November 3 . The fishing is expected to be excellent , so now is the time to book your trip if you want to get a limit of crabs during the first

Boaters Enjoy Phenomenal Late Season Salmon Action
BODEGA BAY – “ This is late season salmon action like I have never seen ,” said , Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing , adding , “ We have had six straight trips with wide open salmon fishing , and my luxury charter boat , the Surf Scoter , already put in 10 limits of salmon to 28 pounds by 8:30 a . m . on Sunday , September 30th .”
“ On Friday on the New Sea Angler , we posted 28 limits of salmon but were unable to target rockfish due to the wind coming up in the afternoon . This is the best late season salmon that I have ever seen , and the combinations for rockfish / lings , and salmon have been nothing short of phenomenal ,” said Powers .
Powers loaded up with 16 fast limits of salmon to 12 pounds on Friday prior to working the local reefs for 16 limits of rockfish and four lings .
Mike Aughney of USA Fishing . com said , “ The salmon are holding on a huge school of anchovies roughly 5 to 6 miles west of Bodega Head in 47 to 50 fathoms . There is
Matthew Mayes had an incredible outing while fishing the north coast this summer when he limited out on king salmon to 20 pounds and added a bonus 100 pound thresher shark while trolling from his Hobie kayak .

humpback whales working over this huge shoal of bait all the way to Point Reyes .
Private boaters are picking up a fish per rod to 3 limits both trolling and mooching off of the stretch from Bird to Elephant Rock . While the fish offshore are mostly two year-olds running 5 to 8 pounds , the fish along the beach are mostly spawners running 15 plus pounds . Captain Jeff Carmella on the Samantha Irene reported 4 limits of salmon to 11 pounds and limits of both lings and rockfish in 50 fathoms off the Head with the rockfish taken off of Fort Ross .”
Second captain Josh Stevens of North Bay Charters found great salmon action this week , limiting out by 10:00 with quads and doubles going throughout the morning .
Most party boats will be running rockfish / Dungeness crab combinations starting Saturday , November 3rd , and early reservations are a must as the trips are filling up quickly .
