Sheng Chio of San Pablo caught a large catfish ( not weighed ) at the boat launch . Art Christopher and his brother also pulled in 7 catfish from Scow Canyon while bait fishing from a boat .

“ Fishing is still much of the same ,” said Marcella Shoemaker of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company . “ Use anchovies , sardines , mackerel , chicken livers for the cats . The boat launch has been the best area to target .”

No catfish have been planted over the past couple of weeks .

Bass fishing is productive for experienced anglers . Robert Lau of San Francisco caught and released a 6.25 lb . bass in the back of a cove on a square bill crankbait . He caught a total of six bass and his friend caught two while fishing with drop shot rigs .

Crappie are also on the bite , according to Shoemaker . Fish small jigs and swimbaits in Scow Canyon for the larger slabsides .

The lake level is 299.3 feet above sea level and the surface water temperature is 71 degrees .

COYOTE – Largemouth , crappie , bluegill and catfish are all becoming more active with the dropping water temperatures on the Santa Clara Valley reservoirs .

Trout Season Begins As Anglers Battle Largemouths

PLEASANTON – With cooling water temperatures , the trout planting season has begun at Shadow Cliffs Lake . The East Bay Regional Park District stocked 750 pounds of rainbows in Shadow Cliffs the week of October 1 .

Anglers interested in hooking rainbows should toss out PowerBait , Power Eggs , nightcrawlers , Kastmasters , Rooster Tails and an array of lures from shore and boat in the coming weeks .

Meanwhile , anglers continue to catch and release good numbers of largemouth bass while fishing in the Arroyo Del Valle Ponds . Chuck Wilder of Livermore caught and released three bass weighing up to 5 pounds while float tubing in the arroyo , reported

Joe Sullivan of the park district . Juan of Livermore also caught and released two bass . He caught one on a Carolina-rigged swim bait and the other one on a Senko while in the arroyo ponds .
