BERKELEY - “We had another great day in the bay, 27 halibut and 1 striped bass for 17 anglers,” exclaimed Captain Chris Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing on September 1. “Tomorrow we are switching up our gears to rockfish and lingcod. The bottomfish action has been outstanding at the Islands and if you concentrate on lings, you’ll likely get a limit.” “We enjoyed solid halibut action today. Our charter opted for a Bay trip and landed on nearly 2 around on the halibut, with fish tipping the scales at 28 pounds. In all we had 44 halibut for 23 anglers. When we have fish inside the bay like we do this season the late summer and early fall action can be really exciting,” exclaimed Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing on September 1. While boats inside the bay were rounding up halibut fillets, the New Easy Rider found explosive late summer salmon action outside the Golden Gate on September 1, putting a total of 50 kings to 25 pounds in the box for 25 anglers. If you want a salmon dinner or a couple sweet tasting ocean run fish for the smoker, now is the time! Captain Quang Vo of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing has been splitting time between salmon mooching, bay halibut fishing and bottomfish fishing at the Islands. As always Capt. Quang’s scores have consisted of limits and near limits with fish approaching 30 pounds in terms of halibut, lings and kings.
