OROVILLE LAKE
Trollers Battle Quality Landlocked Kings
OROVILLE – If you want to catch a five fish limit of landlocked king salmon , it ’ s hard to beat fishing at Lake Oroville now .
“ My latest trolling trip to Oroville produced limits of salmon for clients Jay and Cecil ,” said Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob ’ s Guide Service . “ The fish are getting bigger , from 18 to 22 inches long .”
They landed the fish while trolling with Brad ’ s Kokanee Series Cut Plugs at 50 to 55 feet deep near the Bidwell Canyon Bridge .
Lake Oroville , like other waters in the lake , is seeing the impact of the wildfires raging around the state . “ The air was smoky on the lake ,” noted Reimers .
Anglers can expect to find the typical summer bass bite at Oroville , with the majority of the fish being smaller spotted bass in the 12 to 14 inch range . The larger fish are few and far between .
The temperature has risen to 83 to 84 degrees Fishermen should throw top water lures off the main lake points early and late in the day and then drop shot with Robo Worms and other plastics in deep water during the day .
Lake Oroville is holding 1,962,949 acre feet of water , 55 percent of capacity and 76 percent of average .

Anglers are both catching the catfish while targeting them with worms , Bloody Tuna Catfish Dough and other baits , as well as hooking them incidentally for other fish species . The lower water ramp is one

QUARRY LAKES
District and CDFW Catfish Plants Boost Fishing Success
FREMONT – Channel catfish continue to dominate the catches at Horseshoe Lake as the hot summer weather continues in the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area . The fish are a mixture of recently planted fish , holdovers from previous plants and resident catfish .
The latest catfish plants featured 750 pounds of channel cats the week of August 6 and 500 pounds the week of July 23 . The CDFW also made a surprise catfish plant of 500 pounds on July 20 .
Big catfish honors go to Dave Johnson , who caught two fish weighing 11 and 6 pounds while using a night crawler and a hot dog from the Peninsula .
Six catfish were reported caught by anglers on another day . “ Two were eight pounds , one was five pounds , one was four pounds and three were two pounds each ,” reported Edward Culver of the East Bay Regional Park District . “ The baits used
3615 were nightcrawlers and hot dogs marinated in garlic and cheese !.”
Joaquin Gutierrez also bagged a ninepound catfish while using chicken livers near the point on Horseshoe Lake .

REDDING / RED BLUFF
King Salmon & Rainbows Delight Despite Hot Smoky Conditions
REDDING - In the wake of the devastating Carr Fire that ravaged the City of Redding and surrounding areas , fishing is definitely not the focus for north valley residents , yet anglers that do hit the water for a few hours of stress relief are enjoying very good fishing .
“ Fishing on opening day at the Barge Hole on August 1 was red hot ,” said Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service . “ Since then , fishing has been good , although not as great on opening day .”
One the opener , the five anglers fishing with Weese landed five salmon ranging from 18 to 22 pounds . “ We caught two salmon on roe and the other 3 on T-55 Flatfish with a sardine wrapper ,” he said .
As of press time , anglers working the river were landing a fish per rod or just short of a fish per rod . With massive schools of kings blitzing bait outside the Golden Gate , the fishing should be epic in September and October as the fish that are in the ocean right now push up the system to spawn .
While salmon have been taking the spotlight , the wild rainbow bite is absolutely wide open for fish that average 16 inches and push up to and beyond 4 pounds .
Gear guys , such as master guide Mike Bogue are doing very well while back trolling small plugs . Mike ’ s go to bait has been a medium size Yakima Mag Lip .

RIO VISTA
Trollers Battle Salmon Below Isleton Bridge
RIO VISTA - Salmon fishing was fair for anglers working the Old Sacramento River , while others sought out striped bass locally on the main river .
Trolling for salmon was hit or miss this week , according to Alan Fong , manager at Fisherman ’ s Warehouse in Sacramento .
“ You ’ re going to put in some time but it seems this year the fishing has been better at this point in the year compared to previous years . They ’ re getting them all the way up the Feather ( River ), so they ’ re around ,” he related .
“ Troll from the Isleton Bridge down to the mouth and up the Deepwater Channel to the Barge using a full chartreuse or a chartreuse and silver Silvertron ,” he tipped .
Interest in striped bass increased after the last wave of big tides according to Fong , “ The big tides brought in some fish but they ’ re real spread out . Some big ones came out last week but it only lasted that week . Now it ’ s been a couple fish being landed by guys throwing flies or plugging ,” he related .

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT
Bass Fishing Fair , Trout Slow Amid Heavy Boat Traffic
COLFAX “ The water temperature is high at Rollins and Scotts Flat Reservoirs . As a result , there have been no reports of trout being caught , but bass and catfish are on the menu .
“ I visited Rollins Lake for a family camping trip last week and did a little fishing ,” reported Wes Carson of Sacramento . “ It was pretty hot during our stay and there was a ton of boat traffic . We tried for trout using our downriggers but came up blank . We tried some bass plugging in the evening and we were able to hook a few spotted bass on small poppers and floating Rapalas . The biggest fish went about 2 pounds and most of them were 10 to 12 inchers . Overall it was
