are working a lot harder than expected . When there isn ’ t any wind , the topwater bite has been excellent with the Little Stick in Toucan or Heli P prop bait in bluegill as the bass are feeding on bluegill . When the wind is blowing , I am finding success with the ima Rock N ’ Vibe Suspend or the Squarebill crankbait in either red craw or bluegill . When the wind is blowing , the water turns extra-dinghy , and the key is to stay close to current .”
“ The fish are holding near rocks and weeds right now , but you have to keep the bait in the strike zone with pauses and stops . You can also catch them on plastic worms , but most clients want the reaction baits . The wind has been difficult to deal with as it stirs up the water . We are also seen loads of small striped bass , but there are few keepers in the mix ,” said Pringle .
Vince Borges of Vince Borges Outdoors and Phenix Rods has been heading out to throw topwater lures in the afternoons , and he is also finding good action for quality largemouth bass .

EASTERN SIERRA
Trout Bite Despite Rain
BRIDGEPORT - “ Twin Lakes have been fishing very well this week with lots of anglers reporting lots of pan sized fish , both rainbows and browns , and Lower Twin also kicked out an 11 pound rainbow that was tagged with a Bridgeport Fish Enhancement tag ,” exclaimed Jim Reid at Ken ’ s Sporting Goods in Bridgeport .
“ Bait anglers are using pinched crawlers , PowerBait , Mice Tails and night crawlers . Lure anglers are going with Kastmasters , Rapalas and Thomas Buoyants . Fly anglers are having success with olive matukas , twin lakes specials and seal buggers ,” said Reid .
“ Bridgeport Reservoir has had some ups and downs this week with the crazy , rainy weather we ’ ve been having . Most anglers are still getting into some nice fish but not quite the numbers they were enjoying last week . There are still some fish in the 5 to 6 pound range being caught both trolling and bait fishing . The bait anglers are fishing off of Rainbow Point as well as from the shore down near the dam , trolling has been the best out in the middle of the

lake in around 20 feet of water . PowerBait , crawlers , pinched crawlers and Mice Tails are all doing well . For lures try Speedy Shiners , Thomas Buoyants and Rapalas ,” Reid advised .
“ Due to all the rain , we ’ ve had this week and the snow melting the flows on the East Walker River have been raised to a little over 600 cfs for now . In spite of that there have been some anglers enjoying lighter crowds and some nice fish . Of course , with these high flows we are getting skunk reports but the anglers who are getting their flies down near the bottom have been able to get into some nice browns up to around 20 inches and rainbows up to 18 or so this week . Nymphs and streamers have still been the best , they ’ ve been getting away with some larger sized nymphs lately probably due to the higher flows . This is also helping get them down near the bottom where they need to be . The main thing to remember with these higher flows is to be sure to add as much weight as it takes to get your bugs down to the bottom ,” advised Reid .

on the Yuba up to Daguerre Point Dam ,” revealed Bob Boucke , former owner of Johnson ’ s Bait and Tackle . “ The schools of shad are everywhere .”
Shore anglers and boat fishermen are employing an array of shad grubs , jigs and flies to hook the hard-fighting members of the herring family .
Hard-working anglers are still picking up some schoolie stripers on the Feather , although the bite has definitely slowed down from the frantic pace of earlier this spring .
“ Fishermen are doing best fishing jigs , swimbaits and top water lures from Shanghai Bend to Verona ,” noted Boucke . “ Among the best spots are the mouth of the Bear River and Beer Can Beach .”
Conbined releases into the Feather River below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet are only 1050 cfs at this time .

JACKSON MEADOWS
Trollers Experience Tough Trout Action
TRUCKEE – Jackson Meadows Reservoir is now full and beautiful , but the fishing is tough , according to Brett Brady of Bare Bones Guide Service .
‘ I went fishing by myself to check it out and caught a total of Two Lahontan cutthroats and one German brown while trolling a gold Apex lure at 25 feet deep ,” reported Brady .
“ Although I caught just three fish , all were really nice fish in the 3 to 3-1 / 4 lb . range ,”
Brady noted . “ I saw no little fish or bait . Even though I was there at daybreak , I didn ’ t see any surface action . Other anglers I saw on the lake also reported slow action .”
Brady said he will wait for the water at Jackson Meadows to

warm up ; the cold water is right under the surface now .
“ There were no fish grouped up . In fact , I didn ’ t mark a fish on my fish finder ,” said Brady . Hopefully , the trout at Jackson Meadows will start to school up soon so the fish are easier to target .
LOS VAQUEROS RESERVOIR
Big Cats Chomping On Baits
BYRON – A 5,000 pound Mount Lassen channel catfish plant on May 29 has resulted in improved catfish action at Los Vaqueros Reservoir .
Mackerel , chicken liver and anchovies are the best choices of bait for the catfish . John Zaczek of Clovis landed an 8.61 pound cat while soaking an anchovy off the dock by the Marina , reported Andrea Conner of the Los Vaqueros Marina .
Alex Cya caught a 6.26 pound cat off of the Marina dock . Angie Yua of Newark bagged A 6.08 pound catfish past the Rockwall using an anchovy .
Trout fishing is also productive . The South Cove continues to be the most active area for anglers and fish .
Fishing past the Rock Wall is also popular with a consistent number of fish being caught . From boats , when the winds allow , bait fishing in the back of Cowboy Cove and trolling near its morth shore has been popular .
While no striped bass anywhere near the size of the 22.43 pound striper covered in the last report have been reported , anglers continue to pick up some keepers in the 18 to 22 inch range , along releasing a lot of shakers . Anchovies and shad are the top baits , fished either from shore or a boat . Just a reminder : : stripers need to be 18 inches or more to be legal .
The water level is currently at 155,000 acre feet . Filling has stopped for the summer . The water temperature between 64 and 66 degrees depending on the time of day , wind and temperature .
If you are looking to rent a boat , it is a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions at ( 925 ) 371-2628 or check the weather conditions .
NEW MELONES RESERVOIR
Kokanee Begin to Show
ANGELS CAMP – Kokanee are starting to show in small numbers at New Melones Lake . Anglers are bringing in the landlocked salmon while trolling hoochies trailing a dodger or flashe .
The fish are averaging 12 ” -13 ”, according to Gene Hildebrand of Glory Hole Sports . Most setups include Pro-Cure scent on the dodger / flasher , and tipping the hook pf the hoochie , spinner or spoon with kokanee corn or a nightcrawler , reported Gene Hildebrand of Glory Hole Sports .
“ The bass on Melones are there , but may be on the move with the fluctuating
