VOL.37 • ISS. 12 SALTWATER REPORTS BERKELEY Halibut And Bass Continue To Bite Inside S.F. Bay! EAST BAY - “Halibut fishing has been steady most days, although I think it is going to slow down a little because the tides are ramping up this week,” reported Captain Chris Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing. “All in all, we are getting about a halibut per rod on most trips along with a sprinkling of stripers. Most of the keeper halibut go from 22 inches to about 10 pounds, but much larger fish from 25 to 40 pounds are being caught,” said Capt. Chris. Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing is also enjoying very good live bait potluck action. “The fishing is really good. We are getting over a fish per rod right now and I think this bite is going to hold up for quite a while. It will slow down next week with the big tides, but it should bounce right back. On our last trip, we had 20 keeper halibut to 18 pounds and 9 stripers. We also released about 80 short halibut,” said James. Captain Quan Vo of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing is also average a fish per rod or better while drifting live bait. On his last trip, Capt. Vo scored 12 halibut to 24 pounds and added 6 stripers for his 10 anglers. Captain Joe and Joey Gallia of New Easy Rider Sportfishing are ready to get outside the Golden Gate after salmon, but for the short term they are staying inside the bay to target bass and halibut. The action has been good for their anglers. For example, on May 13 the New Easy Rider had 13 halibut and 17 bass to 15 pounds for their 13 anglers.. BODEGA BAY Bottomfish Adventures Trips Produce Quality Rockfish, Lingcod BODEGA BAY -  The salmon season from Horse Mountain in Humboldt County south to Pigeon Point opens on June 17, and there will be tremendous interest in salmon fishing out of this Sonoma County port. In the meantime, rockfishing remains outstanding both north and south of the harbor. Captain Rick Powers of the New Sea Angler and Bodega Bay Sport Fishing said, “The rockfish and lingcod action has been phenomenal as we are going out only 3 or 4 times per week with light loads. We took out Fish Sniffer contributor, Kathie Morgan, this week along with a group of outdoor writers from California hosted by the Sonoma County Tourism Association, and we put in limits of lingcod to 15 pounds along with limits of big rockfish composed of vermilions, coppers, Chinas, and Bolinas cod.” “We have been concentrating The rockfish bite is outstanding at the Farallon Islands.
