The campgrounds are expected to be filled at both Westside Landing and Doran Beach County Park for the opening weekend of salmon season , and interested anglers need to make reservations as soon as possible .

From the beaches , the annual Monterey Bay Salmon and Steelhead Fundraiser , the Sand Crab Classic Surf Perch Derby , will be held out of Santa Cruz on March 8th , and surf anglers can come up the coast as far as Half Moon Bay as long as they make the weigh in time .
Ed Liu of Bay Tackle in El Cerrito said , “ The wind has been the limiting factor for surf perch , and you have to have heavy gear to fight the 25 knot winds that have been the norm . The surf has been rough as well .”

Pillar Point Harbor on Hold Until Rockfish Opens South of Pigeon Point April 1
EL GRANADA - There are a few weeks left before the ocean salmon season is expected to open on April 7th with rockfish south of Pigeon Point on April 1st . The local rockfish season above Pigeon Point will open on April 15th .
At the present time , party boats including the Queen of Hearts and Riptide out of the Half Moon Bay Sportfishing Center are conducting maintenance in preparation for the upcoming seasons .
Captain Tom Mattusch of the Huli Cat has been taking the occasional crab-only or sanddab / crab trip until the rockfish opener , and he along with Captain Bob Ingles of the Queen of Hearts out of Half Moon Bay Sport are willing to make the long 18-mile run south
Ross Corbett took an exploratory halibut fishing trip on San Francisco Bay recently and landed several fish including this quality keeper .
