Beginning Jan . 1 , anglers will have the opportunity to harvest 1 wild steelhead per day , 3 for the season from the East Fork Coquille River . The open area for steelhead fishing in the East Fork remains the same as in past years .
Steelhead are slowly moving upriver from the head of tide on the Coos Basin rivers . With many of the rivers running low and clear anglers may need to use smaller baits and lures . Some anglers are still having good luck catching winter steelhead near the head of tide on the Millicoma and South Fork Coos rivers . Anglers fishing the South Fork Coos River above Dellwood will need a permit from Weyerhaeuser , which allows the angler to access up to the Seven Mile Bridge . Permits can be obtained at Weyerhaeuser ’ s Coos Bay office . In the Coos Basin , 1 additional hatchery steelhead may be retained per day for a total aggregate of 3 adult fish harvested daily .
On the Chetco , steelhead fishing has been fair . Rain is expected by the weekend which should improve fishing conditions . Plunking will be good as flows drop and the river clears .

Trinity Outdoors . “ Nobody ’ s started targeting kokanee salmon at Trinity Lake yet , but anglers are hooking good numbers of quality kokanee while using spinners , hoochies and other lures in shallow water at Whiskeyton Lake .
With the unseasonably warm weather , some boaters are starting to head up to Trinity to target largemouth bass and smallmouth bass with Gitzits , Senkos and jigs . Expect the bass fishing to pick up when the water temperature warms up in coming weeks and the fish begin to stage in shallower water .

Most of the fish are in the 4 to 6 lb . range , with an occasional larger steelhead in the 7 to 8 lb . range . Fair numbers of both hatchery and wild fish are hitting .
Fishermen are using spoons , spinners , nightcrawlers , roe , plugs and flies , with no one offering working considerably better than another .
Trinity Lake is holding 1,775,465 acrefeet of water , 73 percent of capacity and 103 percent of average .

PITTSBURG - Often the fishing in the West Delta during late January and early February is slow due to cold muddy water conditions , but the situation is different this winter . Without big sustained storms and cold weather , the water in Suisun Bay overly cold or muddy and as a result fishing for both sturgeon and stripers has been very good .
“ We ’ ve been getting a lot of 20 to 30 pound bass on bait recently , along with some very nice sturgeon ,” exclaimed Captain Stacy Mullins of Dragon Sportfishing . On Friday , we had a pair of stripers over 20 pounds and a heavy 59 inch sturgeon . The day before that we got another big bass and two keeper sturgeon .”
