OROVILLE LAKE cont .
Les noted . That is to say , we have put in a lot of time on the water reading , asking questions , studying techniques , and converting the many frustrations we have experienced along the way , into learning tools . So , this win is extremely satisfying !”
Their 12.13 pound five-fish limit earned them $ 1930 dollars , two custom plaques , and ensured for themselves a qualifying berth into the 15th Coors Light Future Pro Tour Classic championship event .
They also captured big fish honors with a 5.22 lb . bass , according to Vince Harris of the Future Pro Tour .
As predicted , neither one of the two teams gunning for the Coors Light “ Silver Bullet ” Anglers of the Year title were willing to concede anything to the other , and battled “ down to the wire ” trying to close the meager 1-point gap that would determine the coveted 2017 title .
And the showdown between the two most consistent teams on the tour did not disappoint , as Tyson Rappley and Mike Caddick brought in a limit ( 8.83 ) that was just over 2 pounds heavier than their arch rivals Tom Peirson and Connor Urling , to win the AOY title .
“ It ’ s a dream come true for us ”, noted Mike Caddick visibly emotional as he addressed the large crowd at the awards ceremony . I have the best partner in the world in Tyson Rappleye , and our styles of fishing complement each other during both pre-fish and competition … and that paid off BIG for us this year ”.
The team of Lam and Saechao placed second with five fish weighing 9.82 pounds . Their big fish weighed 4.92 pounds .
Finally , the team of Cross and Duggan placed third with five fish weighing 9.25 pounds . Their big fish went 3.08 pounds .
They won $ 1000 and scored 198 points .
A total of 75 teams competed in the event out of the Bidwell Canyon Marina . The top ten teams scored checks .
Lake Oroville is holding 1,250,451 acre feet of water , only 35 percent of capacity and 58 percent of average . The water level is now 699.45 feet in elevation .

LAKE PARDEE
Anglers Nail Feisty Rainbows
IONE – Both shore anglers and boaters are hooking lots of trout , the result of big plants of rainbow trout in recent months . The last plant of the season by Calaveras Trout Farm went into the lake on October 14 .
Kristy Karpenter and her husband , Mike , reported solid trout action on a late October trolling adventure at Pardee .
“ Mike and I decided to go chase some trout today ,” she said . “ We hit the water at 7:07 am . We started our troll in the narrows just after the launch and then moved up the river arm a couple of hours later .”
“ A silver Speedy Shiner with the red lightning bolt caught four fish and one fish came on a Gvf Lures Silver Comet and Moonshadow flashers ,” she said .
“ Our fish were 13-15 ” and were caught between 7 and 25 ’ down . They were super bright and clean . We also lost at least five fish . After releasing one of the smallest we took home four .,” she added .
Shore anglers are also hooking trout while fishing dough baits , nightcrawlers , Kastmasters and other offerings in the main recreation area .
The lake will close to the public for the season on November 5 . The lake will reopen next February under a new concessionaire , the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company .
This monster Lake Shasta rainbow was caught on September 16 . The hot set up was a Shasta Tackle Hum Dinger teamed with a Sling Blade dodger trolled 105 feet deep .

PYRAMID LAKE
Consistently Solid Bite
This report will read much the same as the last Pyramid Lake report ; which is a good thing for trollers . The fishing is good for boaters and slow to fair for bank anglers . Boaters are enjoying very steady action while slowly dragging U-20 Flatfish on the bottom with three way rigs , or downrigger trolling with Apex Lures and Lyman ’ s .
“ How ’ s the shore bite ?” I asked Jeff Morris . “ There still is no shore bite .” He casually replied . That ’ s nothing too surprising for late October . The best bank fishing continues to be for spoon casters at beaches like Blockhouse and Spider Point . These beaches offer deep drop-offs where anglers can theoretically cast their offerings into 90 ’ of water . The best tactic for shore success is to cast a ½ or ¾ ounce Kastmaster as far as possible and let it sink to the bottom , and then employ a stop and go retrieve back to the beach . Plan on bringing a lot of patience as this isn ’ t going to be a hot bite .
Contrastingly , the trollers are really lighting the fish up . Lou Varela of Reno hooked and lost a huge fish the other day ago . He had this to say about it , “ I only had it on for a few seconds … just a couple of huge head shakes , and it pulled some line off . Then it was gone . It was a giant for sure .” Jeff Morris also got in on the action putting his Dad , Pat Morris , onto a very respectable eleven pound Pilot Peak Cutt ’.
Trolling will continue to be the top tactic until at least Veteran ’ s Day . The warm weather currently hovering over the west coast is doing a great job of keeping the water warm and the fish deep .

FREMONT – “ In general , trout fishing has been fantastic as of late , with many anglers catching their limits ,” said Joe Sullivan of the East
3615
Bay Regional Park District . “
Joey Kaudy caught three trout one day and two more two days later . Jack Antrim reported the surface water temperature to be 67 degrees
Joaquin Gutierrez of San Lorenzo caught his limit of trout on Fisherman ’ s Row using chartreuse PowerBait . Larry Caballero of Hayward landed his limit of trout using Mouse Tails on Fisherman ’ s Row .
Noah Nolasco of Fremont caught a 5 lb 3 oz catfish in Horseshoe ( near the swim area ) using night crawlers .
The park district stocked 750 pounds of rainbows in Horseshow the week of October 16 and another 750 pounds the week of October 23 .
Also , note that the use of lead fishing tackle is prohibited at Quarry Lakes . You can exchange lead tackle at the kiosk in a “ 1 for 1 ” trade for stainless steel weights .
