Lopez Point Adventure Yields Huge Lingcod To 31 Pounds !
MOSS LANDING – The recent longrange rockfish trip to Lopez Point , located 65 miles from Moss Landing , was a huge success !
“ The anglers landed limits of lingcod to 31 pounds ,” reported Carol Jones of Kahuna Sportfishing . “ Three-quarters of our lingcod were over 20 pounds . They also bagged limits of quality rockfish , including vermilion , copper , olive rockfish to 7 pounds .”
“ I used a straight bar with no teaser ,” she said . “ I caught four lingcod , throwing back two of them . I landed six vermilions averaging 6 pounds , 2 coppers and 2 olives . I used an orange / gold back Jack ’ s Jig and a 6 oz Ahi Assault Jig . We fished mostly in 180 feet of water .”
The next Lopez Point trip is scheduled for September 12 and October 7 , weather

A full day trip by the Kahuna to Twin Rocks on September 1 yielded 140 rockfish and 5 lingcod for 14 anglers . Another trip on August 30 yielded 70 rockfish and 1 lingcod for 7 people .
Chris ’ Fishing Trips reported solid lingcod and rockfish action also along the Monterey County Coast .
The 26 anglers aboard the Checkmate on Sunday , September 3 landed 1 / 2 limits of rockfish and 21 lingcod . On the day before , the Checkmate checked in with limits of rockfish and 3 lingcod for 24 passengers , while the Caroline had ¾ limits of rockfish and 27 lings for 25 anglers .
“ The fishing has been good for the inshore species ,” reported Todd Fraser at Bayside Marine . “ There were some quality halibut caught near 4 Mile Beach to Davenport in 50-90 feet of water . Rockfish action was also good in the deep water near Wilder Beach . The South Rock and Natural Bridges areas produced some quality rockfish and lingcod . In addition , some halibut and white seabass were caught in Capitola ”.
“ Boaters reported catching some albacore on September 3 inside the
3102 601 and the Guide ,” he added .
