RIO VISTA
Deep Trolling Top Method For
Stripers
RIO VISTA - Anglers on the troll found
striped bass this week while others rode
out slow action on salmon.
Deep trolling was the top recommenfed
method this week for chasing schoolie
striped bass. according to the pro
anglers at Fisherman’s Warehouse in
Sacramento.
“From Sandy Beach down to Collinsville
is going to be your best trolling lane right
now. Miraculously, there hasnt been too
much witches hair,” Craig Kamikawa
related.
For guys plugging, Cache Slough has
been hit or miss. Some guys are finding
a ton of small fish and others are just
blanking out. It goes to show you have to
be at the right place at the right time,” he
tipped.
Salmon fishing remained spotty for
anglers trolling the Old Sacramento River.
“Most guys have their preferred
methods but its really about putting in the
time and getting a lure to pass by a fish or
two and getting one to react,” Kamikawa
said.

ROLLINS/SCOTTS FLAT
LAKE
Bass Provide Opportunity,
Trout Trolling To Kick Off
Soon…
COLFAX - Things remain relatively
slow at both Rollins Lake and Scotts Flat
Reservoir. The water is too warm for trout
fishing and the bass are lethargic for the
most part. Yet there are some bright spots.
At times the bass fishing is pretty good
and the days are getting shorter, so it
won’t be too long before the holdover and
wild trout finning about both fisheries get
active and move to the surface to feed.
“Right now, both Scotts and Rollins are
kicking out bass. I’ve hit Rollins twice this
week after work and I’ve caught spotted
bass up to 2 pounds on floating Rapalas
late in the evening and on small Senkos
before the evening topwater gets going,”
reported Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.
“I’m really getting excited about brown
trout fishing at Scotts and Rollins this
fall. The water level at both lakes is high
and the fisheries seem to be very healthy
in the wake of the drought years. I’m
expecting some solid brown trout trolling
once surface temperatures start to drop.
When overnight temperatures start getting
into the lower 40’s I’ll be out there ripping
minnow plugs behind my kayak,” Pleece
exclaimed.
SACRAMENTO - RIO LINDA – One
local angler, David Jenkins, got a big
surprise when he hooked two steelhead
in the 5 to 6 lb. range while trolling
Silvetron spinners for salmon below
Verona.
“He took photos of the fish and then
released them back into the water,” said
Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors. “He was
trolling downriver at a speed of 3 to 4
mph.”
“Salmon fishing is about the same as it
was a couple of weeks ago,” he said. “It’s
still slow, although it has picked up a little
bit. We’ve weighed in several fish in the
12 to 15 lb. range lately from the Verona
area.”
“The best area to target salmon now
is the Sacramento from Disco
