Anglers are experiencing the top fishing while trolling with Speedy Shiners and other lures at 50 to 60 feet deep in the lake’s main body. LAKE CAMANCHE Trout Plants Begin BURSON – The weather has cooled down enough to finally bring water temperatures down to 68 degrees at Lake Camanche, making the water cool enough to start restocking trout again. The first trout plant of the season went into the lake before the weekend of October 27-28. “Cooler weather and less recreational boaters are making for better fishing reports from anglers,” said Terry Willard of the Camanche Recreation Company. “Big catfish have been reported at the south cove, bass are reported at areas with visible vegetation showing in low water areas, and trout have been reported at 40-60′.” However, Robbie Dunham, fishing guide, reported a “tough bite” on his latest trolling adventure to the lake. “The fish are really scattered,” Dunham explained. “We ended up with five fish to 3.96 pounds. We trolled with Speedy Shiners at 25′ to 60′ all over the main lake. The best depth was 35′ to 45′.” Jack commented on the recent Lodi HS Bass Tournament Challenge Jack commented. “It was a fun tournament -. 10.49 pounds was enough for a top ten finish.” Lake Camanche’s elevation was 221.29′ and 76% full while releasing at approximately. 605 C.F.S. in preparation of winter rains. Lake Camanche was receiving approx. 236 C.F.S from Pardee Lake at the time of this report. COLLINS LAKE Big trout are on the bite at Lake Almanor. This husky brown was landed on October 8. CLEAR LAKE Find the Bait, Find the Bass LAKE CHABOT Rainbow Fishing Expected to Pick Up LIVERMORE - Three plants of rainbow trout have gone into Lake Chabot so far this fall, but the fishing remains slow. 1000 pounds of trout went in on October 10, 750 pounds on October 18 and another 750 pounds the week of October 29. “The surface water temperature is 63 to 65 degrees,” said David Smith of the Lake Chabot Marina. “The weather needs to cool down more before the bite picks up.” The slow bite didn’t stop Augustin of Castro Valley from bagging a 9 lb. rainbow trout. He used rainbow Power Bait off the first dock, noted Smith. • Trout • Bass • Crappie • Bluegill • Catfish CLEARLAKE – Black bass are showing all over Clear Lake; the trick is to find the schools of threadfin shad the bass are feeding upon. “I caught and released 30 fish one day,” said Dave Burruss of Clear Lake Outdoors. “I went to the same spot the next day and there were no fish there. The key is to find shad schools busting on the surface of the water.” Burruss reported hooking his fish while tossing out Structure Bugs. The fish ranged from 2-1/2 to 4-1/2 pounds, with the exception of the top fish, a 7-1/2 lb. largemouth.” “The live minnow bite should start in the coming weeks with the arrival of cooler days and nights,” he tipped. The crappie bite has turned on, but like the bass, the key is to find the crappie congregated on schools of shad. “The crappie are showing mid lake at around 20 feet deep at Shag Rock, Henderson Point and other spots,” said Burruss. “Your best bet is to use crappie jigs or very Lakefront RV Camping LAKE DAVIS Trollers, Bank Anglers Battle Quality Rainbows PORTOLA – If you want to hook big, bold rainbow trout, head to Lake Davis now. Every plant will include larger trophy-sized rainbows. The first fall plant of 1800 pounds of trout went into the lake on October 19. Since the plant, both shore anglers and bank anglers have been catching the trout on an array of offerings. Big fish honors go to Steve Long, who landed a 3 lb. trout while soaking PowerBait off the beach, and Jack Eaton of Sacramento, who bagged a 3-1/2 lb. rainbow. Andrew and Joey Torok also bagged one rainbow while soaking salmon eggs and PowerBait off shore, reported Lisa De Alba at the Collins Lake Resort. Other anglers have been hooking trout on Wooly Buggers.” Though most fishermen are concentrating on trout, one angler reported bagging a 2-1/2 lb. largemouth while employing a worm. Davis Lake is 80 percent of capacity. The boat ramps remain in the water, though the docks have been pulled out. - Dan Bacher Trout Fishing on Upswing LIVERMORE - The surface water temperature has been dropping into the mid to high sixties, finally bringing the trout out to feed at Lake Del Valle. “1,000 pounds of rainbow trout have been planted since my last report, with a few getting caught on Powerbait or Micetails.,” said Captain Jacob of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company. “Although the trout are still waiting for the water to cool more, a decent place to fish for trout would be the east beach. We see a lot of anglers catching good-sized trout there, although fishing in a boat by the dam on a boat would be more productive because of the cooler water.” “The catfish have also been biting well with anchovies and sardines being the best baits to catch them on. Many are still getting caught out in the coves in Heron Bay or at the fallen trees by shore. The west beach has also produced some cats,” he tipped. The striped bass are still boiling in Heron Bay. Jacob recommended working Rat- L-Traps or Kastmasters on the surface to hook the stripers. Many of the larger schools of stripers are feeding until 10 or 11 a.m. “The smallmouth and largemouth have been feeding on the top of the water with medium sized Zara Spooks being the top CONTINUED ON PG 8 Nestled between Los Vaqueros Los Vaqueros Brentwood Reservoir Reservoir and Livermore off Vasco Road Nestled between Brentwood and Livermore off Vasco Road Now Catching First STRIPED Time Anglers BASS Welcome!
