24 SALTWATER June 21 - July 5, 2019 VOL.38 • ISS. 14 SALTWATER REPORTS BERKELEY Halibut, Stripers & Salmon Keep Anglers Busy EAST BAY- Live bait potluck fishing is excellent for anglers departing from East Bay ports as is salmon fishing, which varies from over a fish per rod to limits depending on the day. “We’ve been getting plenty of fish on all of our trips and some of our trips have been extremely good,” reported Captain Jonathan Smith of Happy Hooker/Pacific Dream Sportfishing. “One day recently we had an absolutely epic day on halibut even though we had to deal with some wind. We ended up with 58 halibut and 5 stripers for our 29 anglers on a very good grade of fish.” “On another trip, we had 45 halibut and 9 stripers for 15 anglers. It’s pretty incredible when you can limit out on halibut in the bay,” said Jonathan. Captain Quang on the Goldeneye 2000 has also been putting up some amazing potluck scores. On June 1, his anglers boated 74 halibut and 9 striped bass. On the salmon fishing front, anglers fishing aboard the New Easy Rider with Captains Joe and Joey Gallia have been doing very well on big bright ocean run kings while trolling rigged bait. On June 6, the New Easy Rider’s 24 anglers boated 40 salmon to 18 pounds. The next day they scored full limits of 44 kings to 20 plus pounds for 22 anglers. During another recent trip, they pounded out 23 limits of kings to 22 pounds. Anglers fishing aboard the New Easy Rider have been rounding up some very impressive salmon recently. BODEGA BAY – The ocean salmon season reopened on May 18th, but the action has been hampered by a consistent northwest wind throughout the end of May and into June. The weather conditions are expected to be as good as they have been all summer during the second week of June, and the salmon scores should climb considerably. Mike Aughney of Reel Magic Sport Fishing said, “All of the conditions are there, and once the weather comes down later today, we will be out there looking on Saturday and Sunday south of the head in 120 to 180 feet of water. It is just a matter of getting located once again as the fish are there. Finding bait will be the key. Captain Rick Powers of the New Sea Angler slammed them on Monday before the recent blows started. This is the best weather window of the season so far with winds as light as 5 knots through next Friday. It is good time to take out children as school is out and the weather will be great.” The 34-foot catamaran, Reel Magic, was out on Saturday, June 8th, in a steady wind, and they hooked 12 New Easy Rider Sportfishing Departures from Berkeley Marina 3712 N ow B ookiNg SALMoN, HALiBUT, BASS LiVE BAiT TRiPS Rock & Ling Cod and Sturgeon Reservations & Information (707)422-2050 [email protected] www.neweasyrider.com Get Your Fish On!
