SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - August is a great time
to fish Lake Tahoe. Mackinaw are plentiful and
kokanee are starting to show in solid numbers.
The team at Tahoe Sportfishing has been
devoting time to both mackinaw and kokanee
fishing.
While pulling minnows teamed with flashers,
limits and near limits of macks are hitting the
deck. Most of the fish are in the 3 to 6-pound
class, but models in the 7 to 8-pound range are
showing up frequently.
On the salmon fishing front, the average fish
is about 12 inches long and they are plentiful.
Spinners and hoochies are all you need to
hook the salmon. As with any other California
kokanee destination, you’ll want to tip your
offerings with shoepeg corn. The south end has
been best for kokanee.
The team at Tahoe Sportfishing has some of

Delta. Salmon
fishing has
been extremely
slow overall,
but kings to 17
pounds have
been landed
over the past
two weeks.
Bait anglers
are doing the
damage while
working the
upper reaches
of Suisun Bay
in the Middle
Grounds and
along the
Firing Line. For
keeper size
bass, shad,
bloodworms
and cut
anchovies are
all working.

them. If you decide to go after diamond
backs, roe, eel and grass shrimp are the
must have baits.
Largemouth bass are providing
predictable action on both surface and
subsurface offerings. Flippers are tossing
large Senkos and creature baits, while
topwater enthusiasts work the weed lines
with poppers and frogs.
For catfish the best fishing is taking
place in smaller sloughs in
12 to 25 feet of water. Top
baits include mackerel,
chicken liver, clams
and night
crawlers. Anglers
are boating up
to 18 catfish per
outing.
