taken by bank fishermen using spinners
at Miller Park, Garcia Bend and Freeport,”
said Barnes. “Boaters are also picking up
an occasional Chinook while trolling with
Silvertron spinners, Flatfish, Brad’s Cut
Plugs and other lures around the I Street
Bridge every three days or so when the
salmon move through.”
The salmon fishing will start to pick up
when more fall run Chinooks start moving
through the area in late August and early
September. Until that happens, targeting
channel and white catfish in the Port of
Sacramento, Sacramento Deepwater
Channel, Lisbon Slough and Sutter
Bypass is an alternative for those who
want a better chance of going home with
fish.
Toss out cut mackerel, chicken liver
and anchovies for the best action. Fishing
in the evenings and at night is more
productive than during the day this time of
year, although the cats can also be caught
during the day.

Luis, and a few off our diehard San Luis
regulars have been working the boils with
Duo Realis jerkbaits in saltwater patterns
such as sardine.”
“The big saltwater jerkbaits have been
very popular right now. The boils have
been taking place for around a half hour
near Romero Visitor Center. Trollers
are also working near Romero, and we
are selling out of blood and pile worms
within a few days of their arrival due to
interest from bank fishermen. The best
action is taking place when the pumps are
running,” he advised.
Boating is available from 6:00 a.m. until
sunset, and the park closes at 10:00 p.m.
The lake level has dropped from 48 to 47
percent of capacity.
