Limit Style Salmon
Fishing Underway!
BERKELEY - Charter boat enthusiasts
are enjoying great salmon action with
limits and near limits of fish to 25 pounds
being the rule for most boats, most days.
The New Easy Rider is one of the best
salmon boats in the Bay Area fleet and
they have really been slamming the fish in
recent days while trolling rigged bait. For
example, on June 25 they boated 13 limits
to 20 pounds. They previous day, it was
14 limits to 24 pounds.
Live bait potluck fishing inside S.F.
Bay continues to be very consistent. For
example, on June 24 the Happy Hooker
had 13 limits of halibut and a single striper.
The Pacific Dream with Captain Chris
Smith at the wheel had an excellent out
on June 26, boating 40 keeper halibut for
20 anglers.
Captain James Smith of California Dawn
Sportfishing reported very good halibut
fishing on June 26, ending up with 40
keeper halibut for his 16 anglers.
On James Smith’s second boat, the
Eldorado III, the 17 anglers aboard landed
27 kings to 23 pounds.
Captain Quang Vo of the Goldeneye
2000 put his clients on 22 limits of halibut
on his most recent trip. On the trip before
that his boat returned to port with 50
halibut and 20 keeper stripers.
The Team at Bay Charter Boats reported
that their live bait anglers were boating
from 1 to 3 fish per trip in recent days.
These ladies jumped aboard the Pacific Dream on June 19 and each scored a pair of big
halibut.

Limits are the rule for salmon anglers
working beyond the Golden Gate. This 30
pounder was landed on June 18.

BODEGA BAY
Salmon Action Rebounds
After a Brief Lull – Rockfish
Remain a Staple
BODEGA BAY – High winds during the
middle of June scattered out the salmon
schools, but the fish are in the process of
regrouping as they are already moving in
tight to the beach. The month of July is
traditionally the hey day for salmon fishing
out of Bodega Bay, and this year will be
no exception with the addition of some
truly trophy salmon possible.
The salmon bite rebounded both north
and south of the harbor, and limits to a
fish per rod have been the rule over the
past few days. Captain Rick Powers of
Bodega Bay Sport Fishing and the 65-
foot New Sea Angler has been putting
together some ‘super combination’ trips
over the past week with 19 limits of
salmon to 20 pounds, 2 ling cod to 10
pounds, and 19 limits of bottom-grabbing
rockfish followed by 29 salmon to 20
pounds and 81 Dungeness crab to 3
pounds for 19 anglers.

PACIFIC DREAM
Captain Chris Smith’s 58’ Pacific Dream
He said, “These are big, hard-fighting
salmon, and we must have hooked
between 50/60 fish to post the limits. I
am taking 20 anglers on a boat that is
registered for 49 anglers, and people are
really enjoying the extra room during this
time of social distancing.”
Mike Aughney, owner of the six-pack
‘Reel Magic,’ said, “There is a wide swath
of salmon from Bird Rock north to Carmet,
and there is bait, birds, and blue whales.
Anywhere you find the blue whales, you
will find the salmon. Our six-pack was off
the water for a few days, but Captain and
Co-owner, Merlin Kolb, is back on the
water over the weekend as he had posted
limits to a fish per rod on his earlier trips
along with rockfish limits.”
In Tomales Bay, Lawson’s Landing
reopened as of June 29th, and they will
be operating at a reduced capacity with
many sites closed off for social distancing
purposes while RV’s must be parked
parallel to the lines of, and within the
lines of the site, and you must have a
