Huge Channel Cats
on Nocturnal Prowl
KNIGHTS LANDING – If
you want to catch fish on
the Sacramento River at
this time, nocturnal fishing
for channel catfish in the
Knights Landing area
offers you the best chance
of success.
“Catfish action is really
good on the Sacramento
at this time,” said Tim
Boggs of Elkhorn Bait
and Tackle. “The catfish
being caught at night
mostly range from 5 to
14 pounds, while the fish being landed in
the day are much smaller, from 1-1/2 to 3
pounds.”
“The top area to fish is from the Highway
113 Bridge to First Beach,” noted Boggs.
“Anglers are fishing with shad, chicken
liver, minnows and G&S Dip Bait.”
“The striper fishing is pretty much done
for the time being,” revealed Boggs. “The
shad fishing on the Sacramento and
American rivers has also slowed down.”

Yekam El Nakar can attest to the topnotch
fishing available at Los Vaqueros. On
one trip in June, he caught his limit of trout
and stripers and some quality catfish in
Cowboy Cove while soaking Power Bait.
The reservoir and watershed will be
open for normal hours: 6 am-8 pm.
“Social distancing is required and please
wear a mask when interacting with others
and employees,” the marina staff stated.
“We are not allowing customers into the
marina; there will be a table at the back
door, so be prepared.”
“Just a few reminders: No BBQs or
alcohol. We sell cold water at the marina,
but always make sure you pack extra in
the heat. No swimming is allowed at the
reservoir. We are planning on planting
catfish soon, but overall fishing has been
great the last couple weeks.”
To slow the spread of COVID-19
(coronavirus) the Los Vaqueros Reservoir
and Watershed was closed to the public
starting on March 16.

ANGELS CAMP – Don’t
expect to catch your limit
every time at New Melones,
but your chance of catching
very large kokanee,
rainbows and browns is
excellent at New Melones.
Richard Kewski, a very familiar angler at
New Melones, was back on the lake and

and using a dodger with hoochie, reported
Gene Hildebrand at Glory Hole Sports.
Thomas Filiatreau of Angels Camp
brought in a nice 4.0 lb. rainbow trout
while fishing between the two bridges
using a pink hoochie and a pink dodger.
“Don, Dan, and Sandy were slaying the
trout and crappie while fishing near the
spillway using a combination of lures,”
said Hildebrand. “They fished with Uncle
Larry’s, worms, and Sep’s flashers in the
watermelon color.”
