Flatfish, Crabs Deliver Top
Fishing During Off Season
MOSS LANDING - The Kahuna
out of Moss Landing will be in the
boatyard this month as the boat is
repowered for the upcoming rockfish
and salmon seasons that begin in
April.
“We are all busy in the boat yard
with installing new engines, sanding,
painting, etc. We will be looking at
March to get the boat back in the
water,” said Carol Jones of Kahuna
Sportfishing.
When the weather allows, boats out
of J&M Sportfishing and Chris’ Fishing
Trips in Monterey have been pursuing
sanddabs and crabs in Monterey Bay.
The 8 anglers fishing aboard
the Caroline on Sunday, February
4, landed “lots of sanddab,” 48
Dungeness crab and 8 rock crabs,
according to Chris Arcoleo of Chris’
Fishing Trips. The 17 anglers fishing
on Saturday bagged big numbers of
sanddabs, 48 Dungeness crabs and 6
rock crabs.
“There have been some nice
sanddabs caught along with quality
crabs off Santa Cruz,” reported Todd
Fraser of Bayside Marine in Santa
Cruz. “There was one halibut caught
this week that I know of. Anglers
also landed some big perch from Rio
del Mar to Moss Landing. There are
some small striped bass in the mix
with the perch, due to the schools of
anchovies.”

Herring Hitting Off Tiburon
Peninsula
SAN FRANCISCO - Herring
continue to be landed by anglers
fishing the Tiburon Peninsula,
while the San Francisco Peninsula
continues to produce feisty, hard
fighting perch.
“I’ll tell you where everyone is at,
and that’s not here,” joked Stefanie
Scott at Gus’ Discount Bait and Tackle
in San Francisco.
“They’re all up in Sausalito netting
up herring! Some guys are using
Sabiikis. You’d better get on it fast
before they move out! They’re good
for crab and lingcod bait,” she tipped.
“Down here, they’re still catching a
lot of perch over by Baker and Ocean
Beach,” she added.
Anglers catching perch from Ocean
Beach posted on a frequent basis
this week on the More Than Fishing
Facebook group. Gulp! Sandworms
