- “Things have
been pretty darn
good in terms of
sturgeon fishing,”
reported Captain
Chris Smith of
Happy Hooker
Sport fishing.
“The water isn’t
overly cold, so
the bite has held
up really well this winter.”
“The last time Jonathan ran the Hooker
he took out 13 anglers and they had lots
of action. They boated 3 keeper sturgeon,
lost a couple other keepers and added 7
keeper bass. The next day I ran the boat
and things were a little slower. We only
had one keeper sturgeon, but put another
7 keeper bass in the box,” said Smith.
“Guys are hooking fish up in Suisun
Bay, but we’ve been running down the
system into San Pablo Bay with good
results. We’ve gotten some fish while
soaking grass shrimp, but the best bait
has been lamprey eel. We’ve used some
natural frozen eel and it works, yet the
best eel we’ve tried has been the Pickled
Eel that is packaged by the Big Red
Worm Bait Company. I wasn’t sold on the
idea of pickled eel initially, but I’ve got to
admit that the results have been fantastic.
Not only do sturgeon go for the pickled
stuff, but the stripers love it too,” Smith
exclaimed.

It began in 1958 when Boston Whaler developed a unique method for injecting foam into the hull of a boat. This became
known as Unibond™ construction, and it remains at the heart of every Boston Whaler. Not only does this proprietary
method create Whaler’s famed unsinkability, it also contributes greatly to the ride quality and overall boating experience.
