Tuna Lead Catches During Buds & Suds

The East

ater temperatures contin-
ued great in the low to
mid-80s. The air temps were con-
sistent in the high 80s to mid 90s.
Winds were from the north from
9 to 10 mph that created a few
white caps, but nothing really to be
worried about.
The hotel resort hosted Buds &
Suds 2017 with 105 anglers from
all over the USA fishing, eating,
drinking, fishing again, swimming,
sipping a margarita or cold beer
or two before and after fishing,
making new friends and creating
life-long memories.
They accounted for mucho yel-
lowfin tuna from different locations
along the Cape, from El Cardonal
down past Los Frailes. Prior to the
arrival of Buds & Suds, billfish
were scarce, but once their tour-
nament began, lots of marlin were
caught and released.
Team Flushmates consisting of
Don Yurkovich, Mike Burdette,
Gary Shaw and Mike Mills aboard
Dottie BII won the Tuna Division
with a 38.2-pounder on the first
day.
These anglers visited the Hotel Palmas De Cortez and boated these dorado on October 9.

Team Alpine Hot Rods took
the Dorado Division with a
28.7-pounder caught on a wahoo
lure on the cruiser Liliana the first
day. Go figure! The team was com-
posed of Eric Juhl, Paul Ginter,
Chris Holle and Rob Wage. Team
Alpine Hot Rods
switched to Tres
Hermanos on
the second day
after Liliana developed a mechan-
ical problem. The crew (Omar &
Miguel Sandez) were near Punta
Pescadero changing lures for the
troll when the big bill was caught
on a wahoo lure.
Team Picante 45 with Cory Kly-
man, Brad Klyman, Ray Lyons and
Brooke Joseph nailed the Catch
and Release Division with four
blue and two striped marlin.
All-in-all, the weather was great
and Buds & Suds accounted for
lots of fish, lots of food and plenty
of fun and good times.
