Parents of young children with food allergies or intolerances have it tough at the best of times, but the Xmas party season makes it even harder to manage what your child is offered. If you are hosting a child with food allergies or intolerances, the following seasonal ingredients are ones to check for common allergens: sausages; stock cubes; condiments and sauces; gravy powders/granules; stuffing; frozen potatoes with flavoured coatings; flavoured crisps; glace cherries; mixed peel; dried fruits; ready-made fondant icing; marzipan.

Ingredients:

• 100g dairy free margarine

• 75g dark brown sugar

• 50g golden syrup

• 100g cornmeal (maize

flour)

• 100g gluten free plain

flour

• 1 tsp gluten free baking

powder

• 1 tsp mixed spice

• 2 tsp ground ginger

Makes 12 large scones. Variations include pepper, bacon and olives.

Method:

Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and brush with oil. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F.

Here's a nut, dairy, gluten and egg free recipe that can be enjoyed by - and baked with - a young child with food allergies or intolerances. And you can't get more Christmassy than gingerbread!
