NCT supports parents however they choose to feed their babies. Breastfeeding mothers can require support, so our Baby Cafes welcome new mothers and their partners seeking breastfeeding support, or just the opportunity to meet other breastfeeding mothers or find out more about it. We welcome antenatal parents too. The two hour session is a drop-in, so there is no need to book. The Breastfeeding Counsellor-Facilitator offers a warm welcome, evidence-based information for informed decision-making, compassionate and non--judgemental support, a safe place to feed - and homemade cakes. Our Baby Cafes are currently funded by Bromley Healthcare Charity but also rely on donations from parents. We cannot run these sessions without the committed support of our lovely volunteers to whom we are extremely grateful. If you could volunteer now and again at Baby Cafe, please let us know via our Facebook pages or pop in sometime...

Breastfeeding Support

I spoke to Kate Cameron at Baby Cafe Beckenham who helped me with trying to get Skylar more used to the breast by using a nipple shield. We were also shown a brilliant position - “laid back feeding” - and it helped so much. It made it easier for Skylar to feed as she was upright. This position was brilliant for feeding out in public as her head hid my breast, meaning that I could feed in public without feeling embarrassed or worried that someone was going to comment on me. Skylar had the tongue tie procedure and as if by magic she was feeding, gaining weight and doing so well - thanks to having the procedure, but also being shown a position that worked so well. A video of the position can be seen at http://www.biologicalnurturing.com/video/bn3clip.html

Tatjhana's Story

I had a difficult start with feeding my baby, Skylar. She was diagnosed with tongue tie at the 10 day check-up and was losing weight. I was having to bottle feed her with expressed breast milk and I was really hoping that one day she would get onto the breast.
