The ancient Summerhouse Hill Wood at Beckenham Place Park has a pretty covering of bluebells. The sensory garden near the mansion house will also be springing back into life and is fun for small children. Entrances opposite Ravensbourne Station (served by 354 bus) and at the end of Westgate Road BR3 5DE, where there is a small parking area - but be aware the road is unsurfaced and very pot-holed!

Bluebells carpet the ground in Well Wood at this time of year. The site won an award in 2014 for improvements including buggy-friendly access and a nature trail designed by local children. Access from Layhams Road BR4 9EA.

Dulwich Upper Wood has a lovely covering of bluebells in an urban oasis. Access is via one-way Farquhar Road SE19 1SS, opposite the bus station on Crystal Palace Parade; buggy-friendly paths are shown on the nature trail leaflet.

Lovely Bluebell Walks

A sprinkling of bluebells can be seen in the unique mix of ancient woodland, Victorian garden plants (try and spot the monkey puzzle tree!) and recent woodland that is Sydenham Hill Wood. There are entrances on Crescent Wood Road SE26 6SA and at the junction of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Common (Cox's Walk). An easy walk from Sydenham Hill Station and well served by buses including 176, 197 and 356. This is not buggy terrain so you'll need a backpack or sling for littlies.

The dense carpet of bluebells at Kings Wood in Sanderstead is intense both in colour and scent! It is a large wood but easy to navigate as its paths are a grid system. Parking is in Lime Meadow Avenue CR2 9AR or take the 403 bus to Limpsfield Road. It can get muddy but nothing an all-terrain buggy can't handle.
