Underground River, one of the New

7 Wonders of Nature, is just what one deserve after a year-long hiatus of travelling. And this year, I did just that. I took a trip to Palawan, Philippines, which was recently hailed by Conde Nast Traveller (CNT) Reader’s Choice Award 2015 as the top island destination of the world, and experienced what the island has to offer.

Popularly known as the Underground River, this recently recognized New 7 Wonders of Nature is located 80kms north of the city centre of Puerto Princessa, Palawan. It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2km navigable underground river. It includes major formation of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The underground river is reputed to be the world’s longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water’s edge.
