The board, city, chamber and Amelia
Island Convention and Visitors Bureau
will be working together to make a better
sense of place for both tourists and locals
and promote the main street to the locals,
giving them a reason to come downtown
year-round, according to Duncan.
The application process gave the
chamber a detailed inventory of available
downtown business space, something that
will help with area and economic growth.
“We, as the chamber of commerce, we
get those inquires everyday on where is
there available retail space, restaurant
space throughout the island and Yulee but
also downtown,” Duncan said. “We have
good inventory now based on that and can
work on helping with the diversity of the
different offerings downtown.”
Since the Florida Main Street program
was established in 1985, $2.5 billion
dollars of private and public money has
been invested in Florida Main Street
Communities to date. Reinvestment
statistics are further broken down into net
gain employment (22,487) and net gain
in business (6,442) since 1985 with over
750,000 documented volunteer hours.
