members of the department should know
about should another fire be reported in the
building. It is also a way to pass on valuable
“nuggets” of experiential information that can
be of value to those in a similar situation in the
future.
Departmental Bi-Annual Lessons Learned
Report
From the D9 reports, the Department, on a 6-
month basis, issues a lessons learned report.
The information in the report is an
accumulation of the past fire-ground
operations and critiques for the first or second
half of any given year. This information is
used as a positive reinforcement and training
tool in improving operations and awareness
on the fireground and in the buildings around
the region. When you cover five cities, there
are an awful lot of buildings to know stuff
about. This report helps. Pictures from
Google maps are also included in this
document and are intended to aid in the
discussion of various size-up factors as well
as assist the Department in area
familiarization. The review of this document is
assigned and documented as Battalion-level
training. An example of one job is shown
below.
