When your dog or cat gets sick , they get rushed to the vet ; but what happens when a hawk injures its leg or a turtle gets hit by a car ? Frederick residents may take a trip down I-270 to the Second Chance Wildlife Center in Gaithersburg . For the last 20 years , the facility has helped rehabilitate more than 75,000 orphaned , ill or injured wildlife creatures . Center Director Jim Monsma said the center treats about 3,000 animals per year . In 2016 , it had surpassed that number by October .
