Color on the Creek folks yet again . Beginning in December 2016 , they introduced an initial “ test boat ” that was moored in Carroll Creek just west of the suspension bridge . The hope is that in years to come she will be joined by many others . The plan is to have small flat-bottomed 5- to 12-foot Jon boats transformed into beautiful old world sailboats . Imagine eventually having 15 or 20 boats stretching from Court Street to the Iron bridge , including gaff-rigged ketches , yawls , three-masted schooners and pirate ships , moored with their sail outlines , rigging and decks lit up from dusk till dawn during the holiday season .
While providing an obvious recreational and cultural resource , Carroll Creek Linear Park , also known as Carroll Creek Way , serves as a great way to spend the day . Whether you start at the East Patrick Street end to spend some time shopping for delicious local treats at McCutcheon ’ s Apple Products and visiting the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center or taking a brisk walk at the other end crossing into Baker Park , there is much to enjoy along the way .
A mid-day adventure could include a tour and sampling of hand-crafted spirits at McClintock Distilling Company , a quick and tasty lunch at the German inspired Döner Bistro , the ever-popular Mexican restaurant La Paz , or the newest addition , Windy City Red Hots , which features all the Chicago food classics that transport any Midwestern transplant home again .
Evenings on the creek are visually dramatic with the newest addition of the sail boat traced in holiday lights , and can be spent having dinner at the upscale , yet comfortably welcoming , Wine Kitchen or Greek eatery Opa ! Mezze Grill .
Whether you need to relax , eat a quick meal or are entertaining out-of-town guests , a stroll along Carroll Creek is a great way to enjoy Frederick .
