All overnight stays at the manor offer complimentary wine and spirit tastings in a European styled tasting room, which is situated in the lower level of the restored bank barn. “The manor and grounds are expansive—it is a true country estate. There are eight suites, each with a private marble bath. It is a very different vibe from an in town B&B. We back to Cunningham Falls State Park, so you can literally hike the mountains for miles,” said St. Angelo. “You can meander along our streams and see abundant flora & fauna and guests can walk up to the cornfield to see first hand where we grow the corn to craft our bourbon and rye whiskeys.” An overnight stay in one of the guest suites is a delight for the senses with high ceilings and original 18th century trims, moulding, floors and bookcases. The elegant rooms are adorned with heirloom furnishings that St. Angelo found at estate sales in New Jersey, New York and locally. The dark warm wood beds welcome guests to relax, and the modern amenities, including marble spa showers, are indulgent. The Edgar suite is named for renowned author and Baltimore resident Edgar Allen Poe who, according to historical records, is said to have visited the manor in 1835, which is the year he was married. Local legend states that he visited the manor while on his honeymoon and engraved his initials, “A. Poe,” into the glass windowpane. (Perhaps with his wedding ring?) A full country breakfast awaits guests each morning in the breakfast room, reminiscent of a European country inn, featuring two traditional bread ovens. The delectable menu varies and features bacon, egg and cheese casserole, yogurt parfait with berries, freshly baked muffins, stuffed French toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. Coffee, tea and juice are also included. Outside, off the breakfast room, there are beautiful porches, patios and terraces. “We have romantic fire pits and Adirondack chairs for reading and relaxing,” said St. Angelo. The outdoor spaces are often used for special events such as sign paintings, succulent plantings, Peruvian chicken dinner nights, taco dinner nights, star gazing parties and concerts. “Springfield Manor is a true destination,” said St. Angelo, “Come relax, rekindle and restore. Come for the wine, stay for the experience.” SpringfieldManor.com 11836 Auburn Road, Thurmont 301-271-0099 74
