It was, and still is, essential for us to show our compassion and care through action.

Our first step was to start a crowdfunding page via YouCaring which we each shared on our personal social media accounts and public Facebook Page. The response was positive, and donations began to pour in. We received hundreds of contributions ranging between $20 - $2500 each. We also organized a fundraising event that took place on October 14th in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The outpouring of support we received was telling of how motivated people were to help! This experience has made it clear that without community, our own friends, family and colleagues, the success of our mission would have not been possible.

We were also fortunate to have so much support from family in Puerto Rico who helped us gain important connections on the island. We were introduced to the directors of a homeless shelter in the La Perla section of old San Juan as well as to the Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico’s second largest city, who allowed us to collaborate with other volunteers and the city's emergency response team during our time there.
