Description: The dorsum of this small frog is clay coloured and
heavily tuberculated; giving it a rocky, clay like appearance.
The limbs show very faint darker transverse bands. The groin
shows a large yellow blotch outlined with black that extends
lightly to the flanks and the anterior surfaces of the thighs.
These blotches are not confluent ventrally. A few more yellow
blotches are present in the tibias. The venter is white with
dark flecks, which become more prominent on the throat.
The ventral surfaces of the hind limbs are white marbled with
black. The iris is pale copper with fine black reticulations and
a faint median golden-bronzy streak.
Similar species: Other species of Pristimantis with a yellow
blotch in the groin lack the yellow colouration in the hidden
surfaces of the hind legs. The clay colour and rocky appearance
are also distinctive. P. flavobracatus from central Peru is
similar but has a black venter and dark dorsal colouration.
Habitat and ecology: Almost nothing is known about the
ecology of this undescribed species. It is assumed to favour
clay lick habitats.
At the MLC: Three individuals were found during the dry
season in low vegetation at night, on a mammal clay lick in
minimally disturbed forest.

Descripción: El dorso de esta pequeña rana es de color arcilla
y está muy tuberculado; dándole así una apariencia rocosa
y arcillosa. Las patas muestran bandas transversales oscuras
muy débiles. La ingle muestra una gran mancha amarilla
bordeada de negro que se extiende ligeramente hacia los
flancos y a las superficies anteriores de los muslos. Estas
manchas no confluyen ventralmente. Unas cuantas manchas
amarillas más están presentes en las tibias. El vientre es
blanco con motas oscuras, más abundantes en la garganta.
La superficie ventral de las patas traseras es de color blanco
marmoleado con negro. El iris es de color cobre pálido con
reticulaciones negras finas y una banda de color doradobronce débil cruzándolo horizontalmente.
Especies similares: Otras especies de Pristimantis que tienen
una mancha amarilla en la ingle, carecen de la coloración
amarilla en las superficies ocultas de las patas traseras. El
color arcilla y el aspecto rocoso también son característicos.
P. flavobracatus del centro del Perú es similar pero tiene un
vientre de color negro y un dorso oscuro.
Hábitat y ecología: Casi nada se sabe acerca de la ecología
de esta especie aún no descrita. Se asume que esta especie
prefiere áreas de colpas.
En el MLC: Tres individuos de esta especie fueron encontrados
en vegetación baja durante la noche, durante la estación
seca, en una colpa de mamíferos en bosque mínimamente
alterado.
