Description: The dorsum can vary from grey to orangey
tan, with darker chevron-shaped markings. The face has
black canthal and postorbital stripes. The limbs have darker
transverse bands. The posterior surfaces of the thighs are
mottled with orange; this pattern can be present in the
groin too. The venter is areolate and white, with dark brown
flecks on the throat. The iris is golden bronze with a median
horizontal red streak.
Similar species: Pristimantis danae is almost indistinguishable
apart from the call and genetic differences. In P. danae
the spots on the back of the thighs are more yellow and
there are faint dorsolateral folds in many individuals. Other
similar Pristimantis lack the spots on the posterior surfaces
of the thighs, have dorsolateral folds or smooth venters.
Habitat and ecology: It inhabits tropical lowland and premontane forest up to 1500 m, but is also present in savanna
habitats. It breeds during the dry season.
At the MLC: One of the most common frogs in the reserve.
It is found in all kind of forests, mainly at night on low
vegetation. Read the comment under P. danae for more

Descripción: El color del dorso de esta rana puede variar de gris
a naranja canela, con marcas oscuras en forma de V invertida.
El rostro tiene franjas negras cantales y postorbitales. Las
extremidades presentan bandas transversales oscuras. Las
superficies posteriores de los muslos están moteadas de
color naranja; estas motas pueden estar presentes también
en la ingle. El vientre es areolado y de color blanco, con motas
marrones oscuras en la garganta. El iris es de color bronce
dorado con una línea roja horizontal atravesándolo.
Especies similares: Pristimantis danae es casi indistinguible
con excepción del canto y de diferencias genéticas. En P.
danae las motas en la parte trasera de los muslos son más
amarillas y existen pliegues dorsolaterales poco marcados en
muchos individuos. Otras especies similares de Pristimantis
carecen de motas en las superficies traseras de los muslos,
tienen pliegues dorsolaterales o vientres lisos.
Hábitat y ecología: Habita bosques tropicales de tierras bajas
y bosques premontanos hasta los 1500 msnm, pero está
también presente en áreas de sabana. Se reproduce durante
la época seca.
En el MLC: Es una de las especies más comunes en la reserva.
