Description: This small terrestrial frog is brown on the
dorsum, usually with darker marks. It has discontinuous
dorsolateral folds and tubercles on the back. A dark canthal
stripe is present. There is a white diagonal stripe from behind
the eye towards the arm. The belly and throat avary between
predominantly dark brown with very little white speckling to
mainly white with dark brown speckling. The fingers and toes
are pale brown/orange ventrally. The iris is golden with black
reticulations.
Descripción: Esta pequeña rana terrestre tiene un dorso
marrón con por lo general marcas oscuras. Tiene pliegues
dorsolaterales discontinuos y tubérculos en la espalda.
Presenta una banda cantal oscura. Tiene una banda diagonal
blanca que va desde detrás del ojo hasta el brazo. El vientre
y la garganta varían entre predominatemente marrones con
algunas pocas motas blancas a blanco con motas marrón
oscuras. Los dedos son naranjas/marrón pálido ventralmente.
El iris es dorado con reticulado negro.
Similar species: Bryophryne cophites and B. hanssaueri are
also found in the area. B. hanssaueri differs from both of
them in the orange colour of the throat. B. cophites is bigger
and lacks dorsolateral folds. B. bakersfield is bigger and has
very conspicuous dorsolateral and middorsal folds.
Especies similares: Bryophryne cophites y B. hanssaueri
también se encuentran en la zona. B. hanssaueri se diferencia
de ambas en el color naranja de la garganta. B. cophites es
más grande y no tiene pliegues dosolaterales. B. bakersfield
es de mayor tamaño y tiene pliegues dorsolaterales y
mediodorsales muy marcados.
Habitat and ecology: This species is only found in the higher
areas of the Kosñipata valley in southeastern Peru between
2350 and 3215 m asl. Its habitat is the leaf litter in cloud
forest and mountain scrub.

las zonas más altas del valle de Kosñipara en el sudeste de
Perú, entre los 2350 y 3215 msnm. Su hábitat es la hojarasca
en bosque nublado y matorral de montaña.
