Engystomops freibergi
Scientific synonyms/Sinónimos científicos: Physalaemus freibergi. Confused with Engystomops petersi until recently.
Common names/Nombres comunes: Freiberg’s forest toadlet**/Rana túngara de Freiberg**
Description: The general body shape and dorsal coloration
of this frog is suggestive of that of a toad. The dorsum is
grayish brown with reddish tubercles. The flanks are paler
and there are transverse bands on the limbs. The throat and
the anterior part of the belly is dark brown with a thin white
stripe. The ventral surfaces of the limbs and the posterior
part of the belly have a conspicuous black and white mottling
pattern. The groin contains an orange blotch and two large
black spots. The iris is grayish bronze with small black flecks.
Similar species: The cow-like pattern in the venter, the
toad-like appearance and the orange patch in the groin are
distinctive to this species.
Habitat and ecology: This terrestrial, nocturnal, small frog
inhabits mainly primary but also secondary forests close to
ponds and swampy areas. It deposits a few hundred eggs
in a foam nest that floats on the surface of a pond. It has a
specialised diet on termites.
At the MLC: Mainly found in the forest close to the wetland
of the reserve where calling males have been found in
the dry season. This wetland is located in a patch of once
completely cleared and now regenerating forest, inundated
with temporary ponds, particularly within the wet season.
Leptodactylidae

Desconocida. (Ver.
