Description: This large frog has a tan to pale brown dorsum,
and is usually found without markings. However, some
individuals may have large dark elliptic blotches present. The
skin is thick and tuberculated. The limbs may or may not have
transverse dark bands. The lip is white. The toe pads are large
and green. The venter is white/cream. The iris is reticulated
with gold and black .
Similar species: Trachycephalus cunauaru has a much more
warty dorsum. Tracycephalus coriaceus has a black blotch
in the axilla and a red netting pattern on the flanks. Large
Osteocephalus species are slender, have a thin skin and a flat
head.
Habitat and ecology: Inhabits a wide variety of habitats,
including disturbed areas and areas inhabited by humans such
as villages. and tourist lodges A nocturnal and highly arboreal
species. Likely to be found close to ponds after heavy rains in
the wet season, where they congregate to breed. Females lay
up to 1800 eggs as a surface film in the water. As with other
species in its genus, when disturbed it produces a milky toxic
substance that some indigenous groups use as a medicine.
Probably represent a complex of species.

Especies similares: Trachycephalus cunauaru tiene un dorso
mucho más tuberculado. Tracycephalus coriaceus tiene una
mancha negra en la axila y un patrón de malla roja en los
flancos. Las especies grandes de Osteocephalus son esbeltas,
tienen una piel fina y la cabeza plana.
Hábitat y ecología: Habita una amplia variedad de hábitats,
incluyendo áreas alteradas y zonas habitadas por el hombre,
como pueblos y albergues turísticos. Es una especie nocturna
y fuertemente arbórea. Es probable encontrarla junto
a charcas después de lluvias fuertes durante la estación
húmeda, donde se congregan para reproducirse. Las
hembras ponen hasta 1800 huevos en una lamina superficial
sobre el agua. Como en otras especies del género, cuando se
la molesta produce una sustancia lechosa tóxica que algunas
grupos indígenas usan como medicina. Probablemente
representa un complejo de especies.
