Pristimantis toftae
Description : The dorsum can range from tan to dark brown or olive green with some darker markings , with some individuals having scattered cream flecks . The snout is pointed . It has a black canthal , postorbital stripes and a white lip bar . Transverse dark bands are present on the limbs . There is a large yellow spot on the groin that can extend to the anterior surface of the thighs . The venter is white with a black median longitudinal stripe on the throat . The iris is bronze with a median horizontal red streak and small black flecks .
Similar species : The yellow blotch in the groin distinguishes it from similar looking Pristimantis . P . carvalhoi is smaller , lacks dorsolateral folds and does not have as contrasting a face pattern as P . toftae .
Habitat and ecology : This nocturnal frog inhabits lowland and pre-montane tropical forests . It is a sit-and-wait forager , feeding on various arthropods on low vegetation . It is thought to breed during the rainy season , depositing two clutches of up to 20 eggs .
At the MLC : There is an old record of this species with no information about location or photos ; therefore its presence in the reserve is yet to be confirmed .
IUCN Status : Least Concern . Decreasing . ( Ver . 3.1 )
Descripción : El dorso de esta especie puede variar de marrón claro a oscuro o verde oliva con algunas marcas más oscuras y en algunos individuos con motas dispersas de color crema . El hocico es puntiagudo . Tiene una banda postorbital y cantal negra y una barra labial blanca . Tiene bandas transversales oscuras en las patas . Tiene una gran mancha amarilla en la ingle que puede extenderse hacia la superficie anterior de los muslos . El vientre es de color blanco con una línea longitudinal de color negro en la garganta . El iris es de color bronce con una banda roja horizontal y pequeñas motas negras .
Especies similares : La mancha amarilla presente en la ingle la distingue de otras especies similares de Pristimantis . P . carvalhoi es más pequeña , carece de pliegues dorsolaterales y no tiene un patrón contrastado en el rostro como P . toftae .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta rana nocturna habita bosques tropicales bajos y bosques premontanos . Se alimenta de artrópodos en vegetación baja usando la estrategia pasiva de sentarse y esperar . Se cree que la época de reproducción de esta especie es durante la temporada de lluvias y que depositan dos puestas de hasta 20 huevos .
En el MLC : Existe un registro antiguo de esta especie pero sin fotos o información acerca de la ubicación ; por lo tanto su presencia en la reserva aún necesita ser confirmada .
Estado de la UICN : Preocupación menor . Decreasing . ( Ver . 3.1 )
