Description : This species is extremely variable in colouration and patternation . The dorsum varies from tan to dark brown and usually has a black W-shaped mark . It usually has an interorbital bar , labial bars and a postorbital stripe . Some individuals can present a cream interorbital bar and a cream longitudinal stripe along the dorsum . It presents transverse bands in the limbs . The venter is greyish with lighter flecks . The posterior surfaces of the thighs are dark brown . Generally the iris is metallic green and divided by a horizontal reddish bar .
Similar species : Identification of this species can be a challenge . The W-shaped mark on the back , the uniformly brown posterior surfaces of the thighs , and the lack of any other distinctive feature should help to discount other Pristimantis species .
Habitat and ecology : Found in the Amazonian lowland and Andean foothill tropical humid forests . Usually found at night on low vegetation , and sometimes during the day in the leaf litter . Under this name there are probably more than one species masked .
At the MLC : The most common Pristimantis frog in the reserve . It is found throughout the reserve , but more frequently in the minimally disturbed and partially cleared and now regenerating forest areas .
IUCN Status : Least Concern . Stable . ( Ver 3.1 )

Descripción : Esta especie es extremadamente variable en coloración y patrones . El dorso varía de color canela a marrón oscuro , y por lo general presenta una marca negra en forma de W . Normalmente tiene una banda interorbital , bandas labiales y una banda postorbital . Algunos individuos pueden presentar una banda interorbital y una banda longitudinal a lo largo de un dorso color crema . Presenta bandas transversales en las patas . El vientre es grisáceo con un moteado más claro . Las superficies posteriores de los muslos son marrón oscuro . Generalmente el iris es verde metálico dividido por una barra horizontal rojiza .
Especies similares : Identificar esta especie puede ser un reto . La marca en forma de W en el dorso , las superficies posteriores de los muslos de color marrón uniforme , y que no tenga ninguna otra característica distintiva debería ayudar a descartar otras especies de Pristimantis .
Hábitat y ecología : Se encuentra en los bosques tropicales húmedos del piedemonte de los Andes y de las tierras bajas amazónicas . Normalmente se encuentra por la noche sobre vegetación baja , pero en ocasiones también de día entre la hojarasca . Probablemente haya más de una especie oculta bajo este nombre .
En el MLC : Es la especie de Pristimantis más común en la reserva . Se encuentra por toda ella , pero más frecuentemente en las áreas de bosque mínimamente talado y parcialmente aclarado y ahora en regeneración .
Estado de la UICN : Preocupación menor . Estable . ( Ver 3.1 )
