Pristimantis carvalhoi
Description : This small frog has a dark brown tuberculated dorsum that usually shows some markings , such as a W-shaped dark scapular fold or a yellow / tan mid-dorsal stripe . It presents labial bars and an interorbital bar . The venter is white / cream with dark flecks on the throat . It has a yellow blotch on the groin that does not spread to the venter . The limbs show transverse bands and the posterior surface of the thighs is the same colour as the dorsum .
Similar species : Pristimantis croceoinguinis has a yellow / orange groin blotch that extends onto the anterior surface of the thigh . P . minutulus has a yellow groin , but has a smooth dorsum and finger I shorter than finger II . P . toftae also has a yellow groin , but has a visible tympanum , dorsolateral folds and a dark facial mask .
Habitat and ecology : It is an inhabitant of primary lowland tropical forests , both in varzea and terra firme forests . It is found at night on low vegetation .
At the MLC : Found almost exclusively in the minimally disturbed forest areas . It has been found up to 1200 m asl in the Piñi Piñi range , where is one of the most abundant species .
IUCN Status : Least Concern . Stable . ( Ver 3.1 )
Descripción : Esta pequeña rana tiene un dorso tuberculado marrón oscuro que suele mostrar algunas marcas , tales como un pliegue escapular con forma de W o una banda paravertebral amarilla / canela . Presenta barras labiales y una banda interorbital . El vientre es blanco / crema con moteado oscuro en la garganta . Tiene una mancha amarilla en la ingle que no se extiende a la zona ventral . Las patas muestran bandas transversales , y la parte posterior de los muslos es del mismo color que el dorso .
Especies similares : Pristimantis croceoinguinis tiene una mancha amarilla / naranja que se extiende a las superficies anteriores de los muslos . P . minutulus tiene una ingle amarilla , pero tiene un dorso liso y el dedo I más corto que el II . P . toftae tiene también una ingle amarilla , pero tiene un tímpano visible , pliegues dorsolaterales y una máscara facial negra .
Hábitat y ecología : Habita bosques primarios tropicales de tierras bajas , tanto en bosques de varzea como en bosques de terra firme . Se encuentra de noche sobre vegetación baja .
En el MLC : Se encuentra casi exclusivamente en las áreas de bosque mínimamente alterado . Se ha encontrado hasta los 1200 msnm en la cordillera del Piñi Piñi , donde es una de las especies más abundantes .
Estado de la UICN : Preocupación menor . Estable . ( Ver 3.1 )
