Description : This is a large , big-headed frog . The most distinctive feature of this species is a small horn over each eyelid . The dorsum can be tan or green with brown elongate markings on the dorsum and face . The limbs have transverse brown bands and the flanks have dark spot markings . The throat is brown but black in breeding males . The belly is grayish white .
Similar species : Unmistakable due to the horns on the eyelids and the general round shape .
Habitat and ecology : This terrestrial frog mainly inhabits terra firme forests up to 400 m asl . Apparently it is more active with rainy weather . It is a voracious ambush frog which buries itself in the leaf litter until prey passes by . It has a diverse diet that includes arthropods , crabs , frogs , snakes , lizards and small mammals , even prey bigger than itself ! It breeds during the rainy season in ponds and females deposit clutches of 500-1970 eggs . The tadpoles are carnivorous and can feed on other frog species ’ tadpoles .

Descripción : Esta es una rana grande y cabezona . Lo más característico de esta especie es un pequeño cuerno sobre cada párpado . El dorso puede ser canela o verde con marcas elongadas marrones en el dorso y cara . Las extremidades tienen bandas transversales marrones y los flancos tienen marcas punteadas oscuras . La garganta es marrón , pero en machos en estado reproductivo es negra . La tripa es blanca grisácea .
Especies similares : Inconfundible gracias a los cuernos sobre los párpados y su forma corporal redondeada .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta rana terrestre habita principalmente bosques de terra firme hasta los 400 msnm . Aparentemente es más activa durante la estación húmeda . Rana voraz , se entierra en la hojarasca para emboscar a sus presas . Tiene una dieta diversa que incluye artrópodos , cangrejos , ranas , serpientes , lagartijas y mamíferos pequeños , ¡ incluso presas más grandes que ella misma ! Se reproduce durante la estación húmeda en charcas y las hembras depositan puestas de 500 a 1970 huevos . Los renacuajos son carnívoros y se pueden alimentar de los renacuajos de otras especies de ranas .
