Elachistocleis muiraquitan
Description : This odd-shaped frog has a robust body and limbs , with a narrow pointed head . The dorsum and sides are brownish gray and there is a light mid-dorsal stripe that runs from the neck to the vent . Behind the head there is a skin fold and the venter is uniform yellow and is especially bright in breeding males . The iris is bronze with black speckling .
Similar species : For a long time this species has been confused with Elachistocleis ovalis and E . bicolor , until its description in 2012 . It can be distinguished from other Elachistocleis by the presence of the light stripe that runs from the vent to the neck . It differs from species of other genus of microhylids by its uniform yellow venter .
Habitat and ecology : This terrestrial frog inhabits lowland tropical forest and apparently is more common in varzea forest . It is more active at daytime and breeds during the rainy season , depositing a few hundred eggs as a surface film on the water . E . muiraquitan is a specialist forager of ants and termites .

Descripción : Esta rana de forma corporal extraña tiene un cuerpo y extremidades robustas , con una cabeza estrecha y puntiaguda . El dorso y flancos son gris marrónaceo y tiene una banda mediodorsal clara que va del cuello a la cloaca . Detrás de la cabeza presenta un pliegue dérmico . El vientre es uniformemente amarillo y especialmente intenso en machos en período de reproducción . El iris es bronce con motas negras .
Especies similares : Durante mucho tiempo esta especie se confundió con Elachistocleis ovalis y E . bicolor , hasta su descripción en 2012 . Puede ser distinguida de otros Elachistocleis por la banda clara que va del cuello a la cloaca . Se diferencia de especies de otros géneros de microhílidos por su vientre uniformemente amarillo .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta rana terrestre habita bosques tropicales de tierras bajas , y aparentemente es más común en bosque de varzea . Es más activa durante el día y se reproduce durante la estación de lluvias , depositando unos pocos cientos de huevos como una lámina superficial sobre el agua . E . muiraquitan es un consumidor especialista de hormigas y termitas .
