Hypsiboas gladiator
Description : The dorsum varies from light brown to dark brown and in some individuals can have a green color . It has irregular darker blotches on the dorsum . The flanks are darker and have whitish spots that extends to the groin . The sides are separated from the dorsum by a light brown dorsolateral stripe . The posterior surfaces of the thighs also have white mottling . The venter is creamy white . The iris is silvery gray .
Similar species : The white spots on the thighs and flanks distinguish this species from other brown treefrogs in the area .
Habitat and ecology : This nocturnal species inhabits tropical humid montane forest in southern Peru , between 900 and 2000 m asl . It is found along road ditches in primary and secondary forest areas . Apprently it is not affected by the chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis , although we have found individuals dead or semidead in the Kosñipata valley which could have been affected by this disease . Males fight between themselves using a spine like feature present in their thumbs .

Descripción : El dorso varía de marrón claro a oscuro y en algunos individuos puede ser de color verde . Tiene manchas oscuras irregulares en el dorso . Los flancos son más oscuros y tiene motas blancas que se extienden hasta la ingle . Los flancos están separados del dorso por una bana dorsolateral de color marrón claro . Las superficies posteriores de los muslos también tienen un moteado blanco . El vientre es blanco crema . El iris es gris plateado .
Especies similares : El moteado blanco en los muslos y flancos distinguen esta especie de otras ranas arbóreas marrones en el área .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta especie nocturna habita bosques tropicales humedos montanos en el sur de Perú , entre los 900 y los 2000 msnm . Se encuentra a lo largo de las cunetas de la carretera en bosques primarios y secundarios . Aparentemente no se ve afectada por el hongo quítrido Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis , aunque hemos encontrado individuos muertos o semimuertos en el valle de Kosñipata que podrían haber sido afectados por esta enfermedad . Los machos luchan entre ellos usando una especie de espina presente en sus pulgares .
