Dendropsophus marmoratus
Description : This cryptic medium sized frog has a brown dorsum with markings that resemble the bark of a tree . The limbs possess fringes and transverse dark bands . The belly and throat are white with a distinctive black mottling . Flanks , groin and axilla have the same pattern , but on an orange background colour . The ventral surfaces of the limbs are black . The webbing is orange . The iris is tan to gray with fine black reticulations .
Similar species : Dendropsophus acreanus is very similar but it is slightly smaller and it has not got a mottled venter .
Habitat and ecology : This nocturnal frog inhabits lowland tropical primary and secondary rainforest and can be found in clearings during breeding time . It is a highly arboreal species that comes seldom to lower heights and mainly for reproductive purposes . After heavy rains they will congregate around temporary and permanent ponds . Females lay clutches of between 740 and 1580 eggs in the water . It feeds on invertebrates , especially beetles and orthopterans .

Descripción : Esta rana críptica de tamaño mediano tiene un dorso marrón con marcas que la hacen parecer la corteza de un árbol . Las patas poseen rebordes y bandas transversales oscuras . La tripa y la garganta son blancas con un patrón moteado negro característico . Los flancos , ingle y axila tienen el mismo patrón , pero sobre un color base naranja . Las superficies ventrales de las patas son negras . Las membranas interdigitales son naranja . El iris varía de canela a gris con un patrón reticulado negro fino .
Especies similares : Dendropsophus acreanus es muy parecida pero es algo más pequeña y no tiene el vientre moteado .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta rana nocturna habita bosques de selva baja primarios y secundarios y puede ser encontrada en claros durante la época reproductiva . Es un especie fuertemente arbórea que raramente baja de los árboles , sobre todo por propósitos reproductivos . Después de lluvias fuertes se congregan alrededor de charcas temporales y permanentes . Las hembras ponen entre 740 y 1580 huevos en el agua . Se alimenta de invertebrados , especialmente de escarabajos y ortópteros .
