iversity in the film industry has been a hot topic for the last couple of years thanks to Spike Lee’s bold and vocal boycotting of the 2016 Academy Awards. Diversity includes not only people of color and various ethnicities, but also women---and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) recognizes this. In 2016, Jennifer Tory, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at TIFF and Michele Maheux, Executive Director and COO shared that “...52% of the film-going audience is female, yet women are sorely under-represented in front of and behind the camera.
TIFF believes in shattering this long-standing, celluloid glass ceiling.”
