Hello sunshine! Wherever you are in the world, here in Chicago we are all celebrating surviving another winter. Spring is in the air, people are starting to flock outside to thaw out and head out to catch some Vitamin D courtesy of those longed for rays of sun. The farmer’s markets have reopened, flowers are in bloom and people have a spring in their step. After hibernating through another cold long winter, people strolling the streets just seem a little bit happier. All around people are running and biking outside again and dining al fresco is back in style, albeit with the occasional heat lamp. The dreary short days of winter are a thing of the past, now it’s time to focus on … getting ready for summer. That might mean dropping some winter weight, doing a deep spring cleaning, or moving your big heavy parka and snow boots to storage. It’s time to peel off the layers and show some skin. Being healthy is not just about how your body looks, it’s also about how your body feels, how it functions and the personal relationship that you have with your own body. This month we talk about Hollywood’s portrayal of the “IT” girl and how that has affected how we define the body beautiful. We also teach you to learn how to balance stress, which is a leading cause of obesity and disease. May is all about fitness and health. Those elusive concepts we all strive for, but whose definition is constantly changing.

We hope you enjoy our fabulous contributors’ treatment of all things related to health and we wish you a healthy happy spring/summer.
